Well I was finally able to get the baja off road. Didnt do too bad, knocked a bushing out of one of the front shocks, knocked the muffler loose, Knocked the steering box loose, bent both bolts that hold the rear shocks to the cage,(time for double sheer), knocked one of the rear fenders off with the tire. Found out that my trans leaks at the shift shaft going into the nose cone. Other than that the thing did fine, It for sure needs some more travel, I used it up pretty fast. Need to get first gear fixed, it gets pretty annoying having it pop out all the time. I also need to find out where this new poping noise is coming from sounds like someone taping the cage with a hammer over bigger bumps.
I do need to get some more work done on this thing, and start saving up for some longer trailing arms and a link pin front end. but need some better shocks in the front for now. and stiffen up the rear shock mounts.
Also anyone know how to keep one of the plastic fuel tanks from roatating in its mounts?

As long as you can keep both back tires on the ground it will go most any place. This might sound odd but I like to tri cycle it if you are going up a hill or over somthing try to keep one of your front tires of the ground or light. This way you know the back 2 tires are in contact with the ground. if you rock over and have every thing sitting on the 2 fronts 1 of the back tires might lift and spin... now your stuck.

That is exactly what I did! I remebered that trick from when we used to have our rail. I was just worried that the baja might be too heavy, but it sure responded similarly offroad.

Yeah the jeep guys get pissed quite a bit when the VWs come around. Been there a few times. Good to hear you got the maiden voyage in. Now we just have to schedule a run when a few of us can get together.

If you dont break stuff you might end up doing thisngs... productive and for sociatey.. the next thing you'll know is you'll be wanting everyone to put mufflers on their baja's. I might be getting a '70 baja here pretty soon in exchange for my 56 willy's
