If you have functioning heater boxes, I don't see what the problem would be.

a close freind of mine was a baja owner when he was young. He tried to explain the way the bug heaters work, I got a little confused, the heat is pulled off the exuast manifold? and forced to the heater junctions(def, floor). He recalled when one put the headers the exaust rerouted and it was a cool winter for the mountain folk who own the Baj version. He also remembered sometimes his fuel lines would freeze, due to the lack of rear deck to keep the heat in? Please correct me , if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't know about that. I don't run a heater (AZ=hellish heat most of the year).

You can have a functioning heater in a baja, you just need the right header that allows you to use the original heater boxes. I had a 65 that I ran a flex tube from one side to the other on the heater boxes (this way I only had to run 1 blower motor), and then ran an electric fan inside the car so I didnt have to run the hoses off of the fan shroud. The electric fan gives you better contol of the air flow, where as the stock way relies on engine RPM.

my baja had heater boxes on it till I relocated it to AZ from Or. The only problem I new of with the baja in the winter was snow pack around the dual carbs from the big tires.
