Can I put a 68' body on my 72' pan. Not alot of parts bugs in Vermont and the amount of fab work involved in mine is over the top. The idea is that this is my kids project, so I want some fabrication work for them but not too much. If it makes any difference I was thinking of putting a body lift on it to have a little more room for the cage.

I think you can. ... but why not buy a South west car and have it trucked up to Vermont. I have heard you can get them shipped for under $500. bucks.

better yet Fly down with the Kid... buy a rust free truck and tow a South West Baja back to Vermont.. Sell the truck to pay for the trip. My X-brother in law would fly down and visit for a week and pick up a truck and a classic car and tow them to Chicago and sell them both ... it would pay for his trip and put a few bucks in his pocket.

sound like retail... if I remember right there is a WEB site where the shippers bid on your move. I will see if I can find the site again. sometimes it takes longer to get there because your stuff is moved from truck to truck but the prices are a lot better.

Oh almost forgot.... this is not door to door. you must drop off the car at a warehouse and pick it up when it gets there.

That was via Uship. You post the car, location, destination and time frame.
Then shippers bid on the job.
They are door to door and do not transfer your vehicle from one truck to another. Ours was picked on time and delvered within a few hours of the time we were told.

Okay I think I solved my situation. I found a 72 super yesterday for $300. The floors are gone and the body has some rust but not too much. Do any of you know if the super body is any diffrent then the regular 72'. I hope to be able to just bolt it on, then point my three kids at it with a welder.

Sorry to be a pain, but is their a FAQ or some type of writeup about what year parts are compatable with what years. Could you explain the differences between the pan and body of the super compared to the standered bug. I understad that the suspension is different and not ideal for a baha. Having never worked on a VW I would really like to plan this build carefully. Thanks for your advice

here is what I think I know....

all beam cars from 1969 - 76 will bolt on. but if you switch the body you must move the vin from the old body to the new body - Get with local DMV to see if they will let you move the vin.

you can use a super beetle body on a beam pan but the bolt holes don't line up you must drill new holes. I have never done one but that is what I have herd from others... you ask why do this ... the super beetle body the fount fire wall is already sealed up the electrical system is on the inside. in a beam body things like rain and cold air leak into the cab from every where. --- very hard to seal it up --- if you don't seal it up the rain will destroy your electrical systems... if you drive when it is very cold on the HWY you will freeze even if you have a working heater.

if you want to know what fits what for sure just look up the part number of the gasket for the body. that will tell you what year bodys fit your pan. and if you want to use the super body... get that gasket and drill the right holes in your pan before you put the body on.

Thanks for the help. I think I have a solid plan with the super body now. I am going to try to start the build in a few weeks. The wife says I need to get one done and out of the shop, before another project shows up. I will start a build thread then.
