I, too, am building a 1970 baja. I have cut out and replaced the floors. I'll be cleaning, priming, doing the rust encapsulation, sound and temp proofing, and rhino liner or similar on the bottom and fender wells, after a little more cancer surjery on the beast. I need a little advise from a knowledgable and experienced builder. I am putting a 240 hp Subaru H6 SVX mill behind a bus tranny that I havenn't got yet. My question concerns the differences between the 091 and the 094. Will the 094 fit the bug, and what are the pro and con associated with each. I'm going with bus tranny for strength, and plan to put the super diff and a bell housing change rather than an adapter, to take advantage of the heavy duty Sub clutches available. I welcome any and all help.

What here's what I think I know....

The 091 bus transmission shifts from the nosecone and if you're going to have a back seat this is the easiest one to adapt.. The weak link on the 091 is the reverse gear.

Now the 094 bus transmission is the side shift it has a real reverse gear.. But is challenging to get the shift linkage to work properly. The 094 bus transmission is about half the cost of an 091 bus transmission because of the shifter... With the 091 bus transmission becoming rarer... The performance manufacturers are starting to produce performance gears and other performance parts for this transmission.. If I'd get need the rear firewall and the rear seat in my Baja I wouldn't use the 094 bus transmission.. That I am building a street Baja not a trail pounder..

You may be wasting your money of purchasing a super dif.. I use a type four
diff that seems to be plenty strong

You can either go with the kit to get the shifter to work on a 094 or use a cable shifter.

I have not used Don's for any work. I use Bill at 602-269-1444 I have always been very happy with his work.

I am not recommending Don's bus box... [b] I would check up on any vender before I spend any money with them.
