First of all I am a total Noob when it comes to anything VW, and yes I have searched.
What I think I have is a later 091 bus transaxel.
VW WW01
091 301 211
The tag on the thing says 1988 vanagon

My question is should I use this in my bug project or find another?
Can it be converted from side shift to nose cone.
Is the gearing suitable for a road warrior.

Thanks
Al

Yeah that's an 091 bus transmission.. It's also the strongest 091 transmission.. But this side shift is a problem it doesn't quite fit right you either need to rob the side shift mechanism from a van again or by a kit to adapt it if you're putting in a street bug it's overkill. If you're putting in the Baja you may need a 3 inch body lift to make it work are cut the firewall wide open..

Yeah...Some people get upset when ya talk about people like that... Shocked

It has become common vernacular for a transaxle. But I've heard it used in reference to transmissions of all sorts most all of my life. The alternative lifestyle definition has been used for lots fewer years than the slang for a transmission. I actually often say in conversations that "we don't allow people like that around here"...in trying to get people to NOT use the term... Rolling Eyes Search engines can really get crosswise if the conversation gets onto the subject of a broken gearbox.

Are you kidding me? Tranny is now a slang term for the weirdo's?
Laughing
Oh the wonderfull world of the internet and all this texting garbage is screwing up the english language and all the slang that goes with it. Sad. This country is just circling the drain, lol.

You would think on a car website, the term would be accepted without hesitation. I know all the gearheads I've been around for 40+ years still use the term. I think only gearheads understand, it's the politically correct goobers in the world that can't deal with it. We obviously need a different google that is car oriented Laughing
