Just curious, is there an adjustment for sensitivity on the factory brake light switch that uses line pressure?

Mine has worked fine since it was built in the 80's, but being light weight, and excellent engine braking, you really don't have to push on the brakes very hard at all to stop.
For the brake lights to come on you have to apply moderate to hard pressure on the pedal to activate the switch and make the lights come on. Most of the time that much pressure isn't needed to stop the rail.

I haven't taken a close look at the switch, but I would guess there might be an adjustment on it?

No adjustment that I know, maybe it's faulty to some extent.

You could switch it to a normally closed switch that it kept open by the relaxed brake pedal. Press the brakes, the switch will close and the lights will come on. You could adjust it so any pedal pressure closes it. More like a common setup on modern cars. Might be tricky with the way VW made the pedal assembly.

Or you can add the open/close switch to it like in a modern car. Chould not be that hard to add a micro switch to it.

Thanks for the replies. I may look into it when I get more time. Right now I'm burried with customer cars and don't have the time to work on my own really.
I did manage to squeeze in a rear brake job on the rail (wheel cylinder started leaking) Had to run down to BAP for the shoes and cylinders. No one up here had anything for it. Running the larger Type 3 rear shoes on it with front 22mm wheel cylinders. While I was at it I flushed the brake fluid and the switch seems to be working fine for now but would still like to convert it over to an electric switch when I get a chance.
