We had to pull the rear seat and change the battery. The old Optima gave up. Next the carb pooped out from sitting. Even though we looked in side at the beginning and cleaned out the moisture and dirt one side decided to plug up. It has to come of and get aggressive with the blow gun. It has had its cam burnish done. It was running quite rich swapped the 60 idles to 50s. The fuel mixture adjuster screws now make a difference. Now it is time to let it cool down adjust the valves again. I'm going to adapt a fuel pump relay from an 80's Jetta to keep the fuel pump from running if the engine stalls. Nothing worse than being upside down and the fuel pump empties the tank over your hot exhaust. We had to use the electric pump because the case we procured was a fuel injected case. As for the engine it is a 1915 stock heads, 8 doweled stock standard used crank and an 8 dowel flywheel. Special thanks to Doug's Bugs and Bunnies for them, as I realized the crank we had a bad journal. I had already bought the engine main bearings so we needed a stock crank fast. The 8 dowel is a bit tight on a couple of holes but for a stock engine it will never be a concern. The cam is a Steve Long version of the CB emissions cam and a set of his custom reground German cam followers. He grinds his cams and lifters to work correctly. If the don't spin they don't last.

Good news is the cam appears to have broken in ok. Still working on the jetting. This may end up being a lesson in futility as the EMPI intake was cast wrong (tight against the intake tube) and when I tried to install my preheat tubes the preheat tubes would not go in. This morning Noah warmed up the intake with a heat gun. FRIENDS DONT LET FRIENDS BUY EMPI. Nice part is when the co is 1.5% the HC are 110 ppm. Still have to wire up the fuel pump relay but that should be done before I leave.

Well poop. Been a while since this thread was updated. Life sometimes gets in the way of my good intentions. Through in a recent move and well, something has to give.

So an update - Back on track and looking groovy. Perri got the motor running. Was hurt way worse than we thought. But, going. Still needs some work but that is a future as the projects are never done.

Loaded the car up for a trip to AZP Concepts.

Will be in Jason Miller’s capable hands. He is a busy dude, but so committed to the project that it will come out bitchen. If the work he did on my car is any indication (Hint: it is) this will be really spiffy with a few nice touches. So very impressed and proud of the work Jason does.

So here is what we need.

We had sourced a pair of nerf bars. Those need to be taken to Jason’s shop. 916 E. Baseline Rd. Suite 118 Mesa, AZ. 85204

I am ordering up glass stuff from Tucson – need a “Postal” from Tucson to Mesa in a couple of days.

Picture on its way to Jason’s.
