So its pretty dusty in the desert out here in Surprise. Its so bad that after a couple of hours, my K&N is totally plugged, and my motor doesnt run very well. I was going to put one of those outer wear things over the filter, but thought it would be even better to mount the filter inside the car. Has anyone done this? How did you do it? I want it to be trick, but low buck at the same time. Maybe some Home depot dryer vent hose, a new K&N, and a sheetmetal adapter for the top of the carb.

Alot of the racers use a UMP filter system. This is a cyclonic filter. Meaning it spins all tha med to large debris out of the air flow then has a two stage filter. Usually foam over paper. They work very well. This is the same system John Deere, IH, ect. use. Well worth the money if you do alot of dirt driving.

Your truck semi truck filter looks like a small 5 gal can with a mushroom vent on the side or top

If you put it inside the car it will suck all the dirt from the out side to the inside of your car, The filter will still get dirty and now the inside of the car will get dirtyer.

You may try a more of a snorkel style, mounted up high on the roof. Alot of 4x4's do this to travel through streams, but you would probably have less dust up there too.

Any yes I have heard of a filter mounted remote inside and I was about to do the same, but I met a guy who said he had done it and he complained that it was crazy noisey. But what real baja isnt?

I guess my point was the UMP system is so efficient you don't need to mount it inside.
www.uniquemetalproduct.../index.htm

They have filter lits to fit the solex, zenith, weber carbs ect.

I went out exploring a little today and had to go thru a couple small silt beds. Man what fun I may just go again tomorrow. I see no reason or real difficulty in putting the air filter inside, just drill a hole thru your firewall, attach a couple of pieces of pvc tubing to a rubber grommet hooked to the carb, and attach the filter to the other end.
