The only regret that I have, is that with this radiator it will be covering most of the motor.. I really think that this Subaru motor is a gorgeous looking motor in this application and wish I could find a better means of cooling it without covering it???

Well the work is been going slowly.. I've been spending most of my time redoing areas of the car that I wasn't happy with.. Nothing really worth posting a photo of I'm just being picky..

Bob got the harness on top of the motor completely done and all the plumbing except for the air-conditioning.. I bled the fuel system and got all the air out of the high-pressure side.. I almost had to pull the motor to make a few small corrections to the fuel system..
I finally have decided on a waterproof box for my ECM and have almost finished modifying it to work in my application.. My wife Dawn, made the comment that if I'm in water that deep that the ECM is in danger of getting wet she asked that I would stop and let her out of the car.. I must admit It's kind of an eerie feeling when I come up to a deep water crossing in the rail that I have to stop and allow the car to flood so that I can have enough weight on the rear tires to push me through. On the other hand when I make the water crossing my suspension is compressed from the weight of the water and it creaks up as the water drains... My last Baja I had to do water crossings with the doors open so that the water can enter the cab and exit easy if you feel the cab and the Baja the doors won't open due to the weight of the water pressing up against the latches.. So you end up off-road in in a wave pool... I tried to explain that watertight boxes are also dust proof boxes and I needed to enclose the ECM in a metal box to protect it from the magnetic fields created by the speakers that are only 7 inches away.. I am finding that the work that I do in the rear of the car is only limited by how much my knees can take.. But once it's done it'll be awesome!

Well I finished my ammo can.... I've mounted all the sensitive components inside the box ,, when the paint dries am ready to start installing it..

I've changed a few things around it and move the map sensor inside the ammo can, this means I have to add a pressure equalizing tube to allow the inside of the ammo can to be at the correct atmospheric pressure.. That's not the bad part,,, the bad part is I moved the fan relays into the box.. This means I have to re-string part of my engine harness to supply high amperage power inside the box.. It should take a couple of hours and I'll have everything set..

There's a couple things that are really slowing me down..?? That my knees can't seem to hold up to the pressure and my back can't hold up to sitting at a weird angle so I have to keep getting out and stretching my legs.. I purchased some commercial grade kneepads I hope that they will work otherwise this is going to be the slowest part of the build..

The other thing that is causing this build to take so much time is that I spend half my time trying to find my beer.. This is becoming very frustrating.. I think I'm going to buy a pager, activated it, and glue it to my cozy.. I swear that I have a poltergeist in my shop that likes to relocate my beer.. !! This anybody know a good psychic medium to help me get rid of my poltergeist???

I've spent the past couple of days chasing down oil leaks, vacuum leaks, and things I forgot to hook up.. I put the old radiator on so that I could bring motor up to full temperature so I could run a complete set of diagnostics surprisingly enough the grafting of the new wiring harness in my Baja went flawless.. Now it's just a matter of shortening and cleaning up the wiring..

Love the sound of the exhaust... It sure sounds beefy.. If I was a younger man I'd run it and run it hard... But I've reached a point in my life that it's better to be stealthy.. I like the idea of getting in and out without drawing a lot of attention to myself.. I spent a good part of Sunday educating myself on mufflers and the technology they use.. I really like the way that my muffler came out and I really don't want to replace it with something else.. The problem is the quietest mufflers are OEM mufflers but the thin walls that the muffler is made of don't hold up to the heat or the vibration and I can only get about a year out of before I have to replace them..

So what I've done so far is I started disassembling the inside of the muffler I have and I'm in a try building my own internal sound dampening innards... This is something that I've wrestled with for years. so I want to try to build my own heavy duty quiet muffler.. I spent Sunday evening designing my first attempt.. This afternoon I plan on gathering up some parts and do some more research..

Dalton,

Glad to see that the motor fired up it sounds good. Was gone for a week and a half and look what happens. Cant wait to see it with the new radiator and running down the road.

I like the idea of a quiet motor. First, it is a nicer drive when you just cruise along and enjoy the scenery. Second, quieter means stealthier when out in areas you might not be aloud in.

Since this car isn't really setup to run fast in the desert, slipping by unnoticed is gonna be way easier than trying outrun the desert police. A dust trail is too easy to follow.

I'm interested in what you come up with, I think it's time to go quiet. Smile
