I joined AzBaja because I'm starting my second Baja build and I'll need some expert help before I am done. My first project was a 1959 Baja back in 1974. I blew up 3 engines in that one before I got one that would hold up to my itch to climb "hills".
The project I am currently working is a 1970 Baja, that is definitely showing its age. I have the body off the pan, both floor pans need replaced, the jury is still out on the heat tubes. I'm doing some of the planning as I go, but the current plan is to evolve this thing somewhere close to a class v. But I'm going to drop a Subaru in, a used one at first, with a built up one to follow. I eventually will run on Propane or CNG.
We have plenty of dunes and mountains around Portland OR that I plan to get aquainted with.
I look forward to what I will learn doing this bug.

Welcome to the site. CNG is popular with the crawlers due to the extreme angles, curious what made you want to go that route?

I have wanted to try the Subaru and gas vapor combination for some time. The aspect of the carbon footprint, with regard to the environment was one consideration, and the cost of the fuel is another. A real challenge will be the safety issue of handling and housing the fuel on board the vehicle. I'll go with gasoline at first, but when I install the engine I'm going to build up, it will be converted to gas vapor.

A guy that has built one, not a baja, but off an road rig is John @ Mosebilt. Car is called the Tejon. He may have some insight for you re: safety, etc.

The Tejon is owned by Jim and Melissa, it has been running strong for about 4 years, they are currently building Tejon II. If you want real world off road application, let me know, I can get you in touch with them.

Near as I can tell there is no downside and the constant pressure fuel could be a real plus.
