Well just got the Squareback back on the road (thank you Perry). Brought the kids up to Prescott to hang w/grandma & grandpa so we hit the old Santa Fe, Prescott, Phoenix RR line road into Ramsgate. Was fun. Some old foundations left at the siding. May do more around the back side of Mingus to come onto the backside of Jerome tomorrow ... Post Easter Bunny of course.

There is a car show at Frontier Village in front of the old Wal*Mart on Saturday (4/27/13). If I can get the bug body back on the pan on Friday then I'll use the 50 Chevy to tow it to the show.

If I don't get the body back on the pan then my wife and daughter will be there at the show with the Chevy even if I'm working on the bug. My daughter wants to get her tool box pin striped. There will be a pin stripper there.

Unfortunately I didn't get back in time, we had other plans for a trail ride that I had forgotten about. My wife read in the paper of an all mustang cruise at In-n-Out burger this Saturday. She thought it might be a good reason to take the mustang out of it's 30 year hibernation Laughing We'll see.

On a brighter note, we took the sandrail on it's mayden voyage after about 15 years of sitting for sort of a trial run.
The sandrail ran fantastic and never skipped a beat. According to the GPS we went 85 miles all over Mingus mountain from Chino to Perkinsville, to Jerome.
I wasn't sure how much gas we had used and for fear of running out I decided to top it back off in Jerome before heading home. To my surprise it only took 2.5 gallons to top it off. That's 34 MPG with hardcore trail and mountain riding!!! Very Happy I don't think I need to worry about carrying those Jerry cans with me anymore. With the rails 10 gallon capacity we can ride all day in the mountains without worry.
Sure beats taking the 4x4 up there and creeping along while using twice the gas Laughing

Getting the rail out tomorrow and heading up through Poland Junction, then up toward Crown King to eat lunch out in Horsethief Basin, might make a quick run down to Ore Bell.
Probably head back down the Senator highway towards Walker to head home but we'll sort of play it by ear. Depends on how caught up we get tinkering around looking for mines and ghost towns Laughing

Took this shot up in Mt Union Lookout, the highest point in the Bradshaws at about 8,000 feet.

Had a great time, weather was perfect and the buggy ran flawless. Even took the back way in where we had to crawl over some pretty big boulders for about a mile on an old trail that isn't maintained or traveled on much.
Half the time I don't even know where we are, we just like to drive around and take any road we see at random Laughing We sure enjoy just getting up there and getting away from everything,,,,good times.

Sandbuggy,

Sounds like you are having a great time with your cars. Good to see someone that's able to get out on some good runs up north. Keep the pictures coming and I hope to get up to that area for a ride soon.

Here are a couple more pics. This was running around on Perkinsville Rd, up into Jerome the back way. The shot on the pavement was down on the other side of Jerome heading towards Cottonwood on 89A, we stopped for a bite to eat. Put 110 miles on it during this run which was a week or two prior, and put just over 100 miles on it on the run above in the Bradshaws yesterday.

We were all just as dirty as the buggy. Funny to see expressions on peoples faces when you stop for a bite to eat Laughing

It's all good maintained dirt road and easy travel from Chino to Jerome as most regular cars travel it (old railroad grade). We like to do that run from the house because it's relatively short, and grab some lunch in Jerome.
Perkinsville Rd. actually runs behind my house, so we jump on from another road that runs through rancher property (have to close gates) and that connects to a rather rough and untraveled road that is single lane most of the way and somewhat slow at times. But it's a nice ride and the views of the Verde Valley, Sedona off in the distance etc...is beautiful.
