My friend Al and I have been working on the body lift for the Baja. The lift kit didn't match the curves in the pan so Al and I have been working the steel and re arcing it to follow the pan and been adding fillers where it didn't fit. Instead of it being 4 pieces and having gaps where water and debris can get in we are welding it into a 1 piece lift.

Cut the factory weld to unbend an angle (near the back seat area) they made to sharp.

Had to make numerous cuts (under the wheel well) to bend the steel to actually follow the curve in the Pan. Where all the cuts are it went strait then stuck out past the pan and then made a sharp bend inward. You could actually see daylight from the inside looking out at the factory bend.

The 2 cuts on the right were made to bend the steel inwards to follow the curve. Spot welded them to hold the curve. The 3rd one was to pull it back towards the outside to line up the holes. Then made a fill strip that wrapped around to fill the top/side/bottom gap.

Spot welded the corners. ran out of time today. Tomorrow we are going to pull the lift off and weld it into one complete lift. Grind it smooth and re paint it. I plan on coating it with either bed liner or Flex Seal after the body is back on the pan.

Congrats on a 100 PAGES!!!

A show was mentioned, so we were wondering where/when. I think Lundes is next Fri?

I added some Marvel Mystery Oil to the Gas. Drove all day yesterday and oil pressure was great. Best of all, I still have plenty of gas, so it's not sucking it down like crazy, even with my lead foot. Smile I'll have to write down my Mileage and keep track of the fuel usage so I can have an idea of cruise range.

Cheers to the next 100 pages!

Actually I'm going to miss that huge times large garage. It has an RV bay, next bay is two cars wide and two car deep. and the third bay has a 4 post lift and all the tools I could ever use. An elderly neighbor lady owns that garage, well used to. She sold it and her multi level house.

Her husband past away in 2006 and I took care of her 1929 Model A Sedan Delivery, 1967 427 Corvette Sting Ray convertible, 1970 AAR Cuda and a cobra in trade for using her free standing garage any time. I have my own set of keys, garage door opener and my own alarm pass code.

I took all her classics to Barrett-Jackson last year and cleared over $200K for her.

Well she sold the house and garage this month and I have to have all my stuff out of it by next weekend.

I'm really going to miss it all. I have been spoiled with it. I built my hot rod truck on that lift.

Anyway.... Finished welding the body lift today. Ground the welds smooth and painted half of the lift. Tomorrow I'll paint the other side.

In the back of my friend's Dakota is a running 1600 he picked up for $300. Then for $125 he got 2 high back bucket seats and all the fiber glass to turn his 65 bug into a Baja.

Shane's 65 bug in front of my house (with a regular old 2 car garage). I can only fit my hot rod in the garage the other half is all storage. LOL. So my Mazda parks in the driveway.

We are going to pull out the 36 horse and swap in the 1600.

Shane has this bug and a rail. He has had many bugs since we were in high school. He has been after me for over 20 years to get a bug. I never realized how much fun they are. Until now.

Sold the RGB trans out of the baja to make room for the bus trans and IRS conversion.

Threw the body back on the pan this morning and towed it to a car show.

Packing up after the show in Prescott.

My daughter had her tool box pin striped today at the show.

I've used outboard 2 cycle engine oil with TCW-3 for many years mixed in the gas. Use it in every car, gas and diesel. Good lubricity with cleaning properties. A gallon at Walmart is ~$12, and will treat 600 gallons of gas with a 1 oz per 5 gallon mix ratio Wink Cheap and it works.

Curious on your gas mileage. We rode our rail 85 miles in the mountains this past weekend and topped off the tank, only 2.5 gallons used. 34 mpg at that rate. Better than I remember. No problem going all day in the mountains on the 10 gallon tank.

Welded the seat mount flat stock into the rail and bolted the seats in, welded in a pedal stop, and re welded the cracked rear bumper mounts. Welded tail light mounts onto David's rear bumper.

It's running better all the time, still stumbles off the line however I think that's just the distributor/carb combo that I'm running or fuel pressure, etc. I just got a Fuel pressure gauge to try.

Gas mileage as far as I could tell was around 24 MPG or so. I'm still running a little rich and have been slowly leaning it out after long drives and no overheating. Temp stays right at 250-300* on Cyl #3 and Oil has only gotten a little over 180* I'm sure I'll be able to tell if I go too far and I have to keep in mind the power pulley can cause problems overheating.

It's been a blast to drive around and I get looks (good and Bad) all the time!

Forgot to mention, ran out of gas and had to push it about 30' to a gas station. LOL Need to calibrate the fuel gauge...
