Thanks to Karls VW (John and Chris) I now have a new set of Kustom1 lifted spindles and disc brake kit to install on my car. Hope to be done for the run this weekend to Sundad. So far this kit looks really good, better than the orignal EMPI kit I had to return due to bad spindles. Hope the install goes well and my car is back down on the floor soon..Hope to see you in the dirt this weekend.

First problem with the new disc brake install. The lifted spindle install went OK. Installed the disc rotors OK, installed the new calipers and that went OK. My problem is that my wheels now hit the caliper when I mout them to the hub.

Do I need new wheels with different backspacing for the disc brake set up?
I have white spokes that seem to be standard wheels.

I get them close and then drive around and let my "stud heads" finish the job.

or you can run a stock wheel.

Thanks for the reply Dalton. It looks like I will have to do the same to run my white spokes. Looking at your pictures it looks like that there is enough material on that side of the caliper to grind ok. It also looks like you have some spacers on your lug bolts, am I seeing that right?

Thanks again. VWBOAT(JOHN)

yes... I am useing some washers.. it is very "cheesey" but it worked ... I need to redo the whole thing with the spacers on my spindles. I just have not gotten back to it yet.

Karls used to stock 1/4 " aluminium spacers. I used them to make up for the extra long splines on Sway Away 14 mm studs.

I use a 3/8 Aluminum spacer (could be a 1/4). I use Studs from a full size truck. The car is at Perrys place he can always take some photos to show how it is set up. If you use stock VW wheels your ok. The rims we use on off road cars are the problem.

Thanks to all for the info and replys. I have ground down the calipers and the rims fit OK. Still would like to put in wheel studs and spacers for a little more clearance. All seems to be OK now. Car is now back on the ground and just need to adjust rears and bleed all 4. Was trying to make the ghosttown run on Sat but don't think I am going to be done in time due to other commitments.

Still trying to get new wheel studs or lugbolts that will allow me to use the wheel spacers I want to use on my BAJA. Big PAIN trying to source stuff to fix this effort, no one in town seems to have what I need. About ready to just yank this crap off my car and go back to drum brakes.....

get the studs/nuts from AZtrans .. if you need them this weekend go to BAP get the ones that you need to press in...NOT the ones that you screw in. they are un safe!!! if you need them pressed in I can do it for you Sunday.. Please dont try to install the studs with the disks still on the car... if you need to get down the road for now just use stock rims.
