I'm kind of new to VW. My friend all through high school had VW's and still does to this day. He has a 65 street and a rail.

Anyway my daughter is 12 and wanted to learn how to build a car. She wanted something old enough to do to car shows and be able to go off road. She decided on a Baja. Found a rolling 69.

I have a 1950 Chevy truck that started as a frame and some sheet metal. I have had a few muscle cars, import tuners and 4X4's but never built a bug.

So I called on a few friends to help me teach Lexi how to build a car. She has been saving all her money for a while and is paying for the parts to build this bug. We are doing a pan off restoration in this Baja.

It started off like this

This was after cleaning it out. LOL

Then I painted it with John Deere black just to make it one color.

Towed it over to a friends house with my truck. (yes I use it as a truck)

Pulled the body

Got the pan all cleaned off today. Then coated it with rust reformer.

Lexi has all her Primer/thinner/paint/clear/hardener for the bug already. She wants to do a 3 inch body lift with a 6" widened front end and 3X3 for the rear.

She already bought her gauges so we are making a custom dash. She is saving up more money for the next phase of her build.

Today my daughter Lexi and I flipped the pan on it's side. Lexi and I cleaned off the 44 year old under coating. Katy (our German Shepherd) was there and had to tell me where each piece hit the floor.

She was able to pull a piece of under coating the size of her shoe. I wasn't so lucky. Very Happy

Welcome to AzBaja. Good to see your teaching them young. My 13 year old wants a rail. Good thing it is not mine.

Cleaned out the back of the body and started fixing all the years of holes.

Al welding for me since my welds take more time grinding afterwords. Very Happy

Then coated it with bed liner.

Since I had the bed liner out I decided to do both sides of the fire wall in bed liner.

Got new wires and a few new things for the bug.

What a difference.

Bev sold her house and the huge times large garage so I had to gather all my stuff that I was storing in there. I'm going to miss that place. I've been building cars with friends for 5 years in there.

This 9 car garage is so empty now. Everything cleaned out now. I turned in my keys and garage door openers today. Crying or Very sad

My wife, daughter and a friend helped me clean out my little ole garage.
Now the bug sits in the 15 X 24 detached garage while half of my attached 2 car garage is full of Bug parts.
