Hey Off Roaders!

It’s that time of year again for the Florence campout this campout is especially a favorite for the Eastside off roaders I don’t know how many of you have actually been out to the Florence area but the trails are long, beautiful and not badly torn up. There many old abandoned mining claims to explore, many washes to be run and the person being beauty of box canyon. Last year we found many old relics of forgotten mining claims. The past couple years we’ve been going to the same camp spot it always seems to be available, but by the end of the weekend we’ve always had plenty of neighbors. I have copied the directions from Mike at the end of this email you can either come out to camp with us or come out for a day run whichever you prefer the ground is very porous which makes for easy riding and superior traction. Mike knows this area like the back of his hand and is put together some awesome loops for us at the end of last year camping trip, Kenny and I added two more loops to the collection of trails for this area though this area. This area has been published in many 4 x 4 magazines for its beauty and extreme off roading, but they did not seem to mention is: if you are not out there for rock crawling, there is thousands of miles of level 1 level 2 trails to be explored. Back in the day in the summer time at 120° out I used to take my basically stock Toyota truck out to this area for some easy off-road. Those of you that wish to partake in the rock crawling there always seems to be a group that takes a run over to the coke ovens or some other challenging route, just make sure you raise your hand when the plans for this run are composed. I am to try to get out of work early and get out there either Thursday or Friday night to secure camp. I plan on taking my Baja on this particular event but feel free to bring whatever off-road toy that you prefer just remember that if you bring a full-sized vehicle you need to bring a full-sized friend to help you if you get stuck most of our little buggies are unable to rescue a full-sized vehicle.

See ya in the dirt.

Upcoming events are:
February 16th to 18th Florance campout.
May 11th and 12th The AVC 400miler
May 25th to 27th Campout in Flagstaff
July 4th to 7th Campout in Flagstaff
October ?? Crown King Run
November 28th to 31th Possible campout/Dunes over Thanksgiveng
December 27th to Jan 1st New years campout in Wickenburg

Directions to camp:
3 great spots to aim for next month and they all are only 3 miles in off the 79. large flat areas, all great sites.

directions to the estimated base camp/meeting place for the weekend of feb. 16-18, 2013
from the florence juction turn off head south from the 60 on 79 go approximatly 5 miles, there will be a unused flag pole with a parking area on the left (east side) of the road. gps N33^10'43.7" W111^21'06.1"

from this point the road is a grated flat road, go east approximatly 3 miles east. the road is maintained and its not too bad. turn south into the camp/meeting area and pic a spot. the area will be used by others so you may have to look for signs. gps N33^11'27.9" W111^18'07.5"

having friends with motorhomes and 5th wheels, there is nothing out here that i would any problems with.... i picked this spot with long trailers and turning around and access to all. far enough off the road the small trees block the dust from people going down the road.

Mike.

Last week Craig, Paul Wilson, Louisa, and myself recon the area. The road to the campsite is bladed, grated, straight and perfect I still plan to secure the campsite Thursday night or Friday morning I know that my cell phone works so don't hesitate to give me a call for landing instructions. With the weather being as fabulous as it has been this is sure to be one of those events that you don't want to miss. After talking with Perri it seems that Martinez Canyon was closed by the Martinez mining company due to excessive vandalism this was a wonderful historic lunch spot then I'm sorry to see go. When we got out to the river the water was extremely low this year crossing it was not an issue, since the water was so low we took the opportunity to explore the other side of the river that was normally on accessible due to high water some neat areas were discovered.
We went down box Canyon and found it extremely tame no rock crawlers were in the area to be found so we headed off to the hot spots and were able to watch the rock crawlers test their armor against the face rock of the surrounding areas. From there we were off to the Coke ovens we found them a short distance away just as I left them last year from there we headed east through "the tunnel of love" this is a quarter-mile of the tree covered path that when filled full water makes the geekiest mud on the planet fortunately this time through it was completely dry and beautiful. From there we found ourselves under the railroad tracks to explore the historic bridge that is still in operation today then off to some high-speed washes to find a narrow trail home. Everybody made it back home with no battle scars only memories of this part of Arizona. The only sad faces I saw on this entire trip were the ones made when we realized we had to go home.

Did you try to import them into Windows Movie Maker? It's on a lot of the Window O/S versions. Just check the list of programs on your start bar.

Look for windows DVD Maker then. That's what is on one of the copies of win7 I have. I haven't used it yet so I'm not sure it's what you need, so good luck.

If it's not too long to begin with youtube has an edit feature. I can't use it for my videos because they're over the GB limit set by my account.

Be careful installing free stuff, it's like casual sex, you never know what you're going to get. Smile

Our Campsite is secure!!!!

I was able to get the same spot we had last year!!! SWEET!!! I got here around noon and have been watching a steady flow of campers pulling in. When you get here just look for my Baja or camper. The weather could not be better, I am finally able to wear my shorts again. With all the rain we have had this winter there is very little dust. As you can tell I have internet service out here. Way too cool. I will have my cell phone on (602-617-6869). You can leave me a voicemail, but I won't get the "beep" that I have voicemail until I get I get back into town ... so give me a minute and try me again. if you are coming out for a day ride we usually leave around 9ish for a ride. I have mapped out a nice night ride that we will be taking this year...

Be sure to print out the directions below before you come out.

well I am off to play

see you in the dirt ....
