hey im from anchorage alaska and i have ran across a 69 bug that is halfway baja.its being dropped off at my shop here in the next week or two.the plan for the build is to make it a rally/dd but not so much a dd.now the questions i have are what are the weak points with the bugs?what lift kits if any are out there and how big of a tire can i run?i live in alaska and we wheel every chance we get.so any advice on were to start would be great.i have fab skillz and have been a certified welder and all that fun stuff.ill get pics as soon as it gets to my shop man i cant wait to start lol.im lookin for a stance like the green one is the azbaja guys profile:) nice bug.

Balljoints are the only weak point that I can think of. I run a ball joint front end I have never had any problems, but I replaced all of them as soon as I got it.

As far as tires go, if you have a stock suspension:
I would recomend that you go with 235/75/15 for the rear. Youcan put 31/10.50/15 put they sometimes hit the fenders (unless you're running raceing fenders), plus 235s cost less. For fronts there is not mush that you can do without hitting the pan and giving up turning radius.

If you put 3X3s and wider front tubes:
You can basicly fun what ever you want. It makes the car wider and more stable, but costs an arm and a leg and makes your car wider (cant shoot though those small little openings- be it freeway or trail) Twisted Evil

Make sur that all of your rubber is good, mounts, boots and bushings.

Other than that, go throgh the car and make shure everything is safe (POs have a way of really F'ing up a car) Rolling Eyes

Have fun! And welcome to the Darkside!

well i just found out that its coming with like 3 sets of fenders and 2 hoods wich one is a single peice that mounts to the front bumper and it folds up as one piece.any know a good site to get transaxle parts? it only has 1,2 and reverse.so there is no way to get a bigger tire up front??? so its time for a custom suspension lol

Well, I just found out the 205/75/15 will fit but you may need offset wheels. Laughing

If you want to run tall tires on the front, you will need to widen the beam to keep the tires form rubbing. I have the 7.00-15s (29 inches tall) on the front of mine with a 6 inch wider beam. You could probably get away with a 4 inch wider beam and not rub.
