Funny my bug has the same sun roof as yours. It's after market right because at the time I got my baja I hadn't seen any sun roofs like that.

This week, I tightened the oil sending unit and oil filter, both which were leaking. I have great friends in the VW community! I Dirtjunkie, Wideopenmotorsports and 64VWBug helped me a bunch this week.

I removed the spare tire mount, and got a rear seat in great condition for $30! I also picked up a set of KYB shocks for the front. The brake pedal now remains in the forward position, rather than falling towards the driver. I also swapped steering wheels.

These accomplishments may seem small, but make the baja much more driver friendly. Friends are awesome!

Amazing how small details make big changes. Good to see more forward motion. you get your carbs back yet?

Kaddyshack called on Friday, and charged my card. I hope to get them back this week, but next week is more realistic.

Yup! And as low as my 4th gear is, all that power is wasted! Time to re-gear!

I should be bringing a type 1 transaxle home this weekend that was said to be rebuilt. Unknown specifics at this time. I'll install it when Dirtjunkie and I pull my engine, install the Kads, and change my alternator.

I will try driving it for a while at speeds above 50mph... Then save up to regear my current trans, or install a superdiff in the new one and sell my current trans.

Fun stuff!

Using parts from our other project, I am trading for another Type 1 trans. It is reported to have been rebuilt, with only 1 season on it. Thanks Matt! I will install it, with Dirtjunkie's help, when I install the Kadrons- hopefully this week. My alternator is only producing 12.4 volts, so I'll replace it as well and put the original style dog house tins on because I miss having heat! The 1955cc enging has a large Tri-mill exhaust with J-tubes. Since I need performance exhaust, stock heater boxes are out. But- that gave me an idea.

I may have my friend weld exhaust pipe to run along side the exhaust pipe/J-tube. The heat from the exhaust should warm the new pipe. I will hook fresh air hoses from the dog house tin to the new pipe.

I hope to take the valve off of a heater box and weld it to the other end of the new pipe. Then run a dryer vent from the new pipe's valve to the body. This would allow me to use a heater. I would need to lengthen the heater cables, but I need to do that anyway since my car has a 3" body lift.

The car is coming together- and I like it!

I believe on The Samba there is a detailed build of custom heater boxes he used stock out covers and something that looked like steel wool but stainless stainless that looked like 1/4 strands woven together. Make sure your J tubes are 1 and 1/2 inch tubing or the engine will overheat due to the exhaust not getting out fast enough.

I wired in a Ford Solenoid tonight. I was having issues starting from the starter button, but it would work if I reached under to the starter and jumpered it. I hope it works. It did on a bus I had 10 years ago.

I also exchanged an alternator that was junk at my local auto parts store. They warrantied it for me, and they didn't have to. Awesome customer service! That's probably why they keep seeing my ugly mug...

My Dual Kads were shipped today by the Kaddyshack. Delivery date is expected on Monday, the 28th. That's 2 days before my temp registation expires. Hmmmm, the car may get benched for a few days until I can swap the carbs and emissions test the car. I'll change the alternator and transaxle at the same time.
