Cool! I am thinking of something along those lines. Good idea Tony.

I picked up another dual relief 1600 shortblock Wed that also had DP heads, tin, alternator, etc from Prescott- in exchange for ammo. It spins freely and should prove to be another piece in working towards putting a solid DP together.

Pulled this motor apart last night. Great Score!!! Standard crank and case in great shape. Will be a good base for the 1776.

Eric, I'm stoked!

I was searching for additional pictures of bug trucks and ran across this one:

I think I may use the bulkhead from the Dumas kit, but not the flatback. I like how the above picture keeps a greater portion of the body for rigidity and the flatbed/box is steel- not fiberglass. This looks very do-able. Perhaps I will still incorporate a cage as funding becomes available.

I like it, I think it would look great with baja front and rear fenders, bumpers, and a cage that ties in through the bulkhead too the rear bumper.

I agree. The fiberglass kit was designed for street use. I would design a good cage first to support the car once the top is cut off and add the rear deck later. If you drive it without any support it will sag and be useless.

That was on my list of things to build but I'm running out of time. Sad
I think a donor section of the back few inches of an early T-2 55 up to 67 would supply one with enough curves to make it in steel and use the Bus rear window.

I traded some parts that were of no use to me (single port tins, 3 junk/cracked heads-he knows they are junk, headlights, stock bent bumpers and an original air cleaner for this roll cage:

It is stout and should be a good skeleton for the truck!

My son and I removed the body bolts. Unfortunately, I snapped the two front passenger side 17mm bolts. Crap!

The body is like swiss cheese in the rear parcel tray. The passenger side floor pan needs help too. I can see this will be a long project...

I sold my Ram 1500, and will be picking up a daily driver bug to work on with my son. I will do the conversion on a running vw and get rid of this one. It would take more time than I want, so we'll find a running car and continue the project.
