Conundrum - thanks for the link. I guess I have to go purchase an air intake sensor now.

Cycleguy, definitely exciting. I think I'm going to thrash today and see if I can't get to the point of driving mine around the block...

Man that sounds like a plan! Did Phil get you a good deal? Are you happy with the parts he puts out? I am happy as a clam. Went down to foddrills yesterday and picked up a few odds and ends. Found out that NOW, they are starting to build billet aluminum adapter plates specifically for the ecotec's. He said they are going to be available soon, and will probably be around $250-300. I was able to hold it in my hands, very light and a very nice piece of work. Too bad I don't need one now! I think we are gonna like these ecotec's. Are you building a baja bug or a sandrail? Do you go to the dunes? Would be fun to have a couple of ecotec sandrail's at the dunes this season. I'm headed out of town today for 4 days, otherwise i'd be working on it this weekend. I'll get some pictures up next week.

I would say Phil gave me a great deal. He supplied the computer and harness and charged me $305 incl. shipping. Is it a work of art? No. Does it work? Yes. I already had an aluminum adapter plate and flywheel, so I was just missing the harness/ecu. There are so many people making pieces of this puzzle, but it's challenging to find anyone selling the complete solution. CBM and Turnkey do, but it'll cost you a couple grand. Phil does at half the price. The difference, of course, is in the quality. But, for a budget play car Phil's solution is great.

I'm building a 4 seat buggy. Don't really intend to take it to the dunes, but my arm could be twisted. A buddy and I are racing a Class 11 car, so I'm putting this together as more of a chase vehicle/weekend desert explorer.

Sounds great! I worked on mine all day today. Got the frame and all the parts painted last week and ready for assembly. Got the torsion arms installed with new bushings today. Also got the front beam/rack & pinion assembled and ready to bolt onto the front of the car. I plan on having the front end installed, transmission and engine installed, and maybe more than that tomorrow, i'm starting early. I have a friend coming over saturday to help me wire the car. All the lights, ignition, fuel pump, fans, etc. will be in working order by saturday. I'm headed to the dunes on november 1-4, I hope to be taking the rail with me.

Awesome! How'd it go this weekend? Make some good progress?

I haven't been able to spend too much time on mine lately, but figured I'd post a few pics...

couple of mandrel bends from chucks speed shop and an inexpensive aftermarket muffler from orielly's makes for a nice quiet exhaust. What are you guys doing with your heater hoses??

and here's my $60 jeep cherokee radiator with a simple shroud and $40 worth of 10" ebay fans Very Happy

little hard to see, but here's my throttle cable mount/linkage which doubled as a place to add a standoff for the hard water line

spent a few hours trimming about 2 feet of wire out of the loom so I could mount it there without too much mess.

where I mounted the pump, filter/regulator

and finally, what I wound up doing with the front brake lines...

Looking good! What year is that motor? I see you have the individual coil packs and the drive by wire throttle body. Is the harness from Phil setup for fly by wire?

It is a 2008 cobalt motor. It is drive by wire, and phil made sure it works in his car before he sent the harness back to me. I mounted the gas pedal(stock cobalt pedal) with the long arm chopped off, on the engine left front area. Then running a morse cable up to the stock VW throttle assembly. I plugged all the wires in already, every plug goes somewhere, except the knock sensor. Not sure where that even goes or if I need it, i'll have to call phil on that one. I still need to buy my fuel pressure regulator from autozone. I am gonna have to use the stock VW steering assembly, because the rack and pinion steering shaft gets in the way of my size 14 boot...

Do you know anyone that needs a rack & pinion? I also have it posted on this website for sale.

Haven't gotten time to do anything more yet. I went to the dunes a week ago and blew another damn wheel bearing, so I have to replace both axles on my toyhauler before I have time to work on the rail. Gotta work too, so that's getting in the way of working on the rail. I just need about a solid week to work on it, and work all the bugs out of it. I will have it ready for the dunes after the first of the year, at this point. Just too much going on. What about your rail?

Damn that sucks. I enjoy working on the toys, but haven't ever been much of a fan of working on the things to carry the toys around.

I took mine out to the Hassayampa play day and had a great time. No breakage or problems to speak of. So now, I'm just tying up loose ends and getting it ready to get licensed. Very happy with everything so far.

Sounds like a good time, glad everything is working so far. I live here in wittmann, and I can ride quads and sandrails right out my front door into endless miles of open desert. That's where i'm gonna test mine. I think i'm gonna take next week off work so I can focus on getting some of my own stuff done, rather than trying to make money, lol.

I have everything buttoned up on this thing except for the wiring. I was wondering if you could tell me a few ideas about how you found a spot for an oil pressure gauge, and coolant temperature gauge? I looked all over the block, looks like there are 8 or 10 oil gallery passages that would work for the oil pressure. But water temperature/fan thermostat etc., i'm a little lost. I'm not a master wiring guy by any means. I'm sure I can figure it out, but thought i'd ask you first, since you have likely done it already. I want to fire this thing up this weekend. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to have the fans come on when the temp. gets to a certain number, and then shuts off at another number, rather than having them running constantly when not needed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
