I picked up the bugeye nose and hoods. My son turned a wrench for the first time- EVER. He took off the hood and I loosely installed the fiberglass hood after removing about 5 coils from the springs.

I am really excited that he is wanting to do this. I hope it is something he grows to love and finally something we can do together.

My son is now 18 and works at Crumco building race Bajas.

Keep going! You're teaching him a hobby and a trade.

keep it fun for him, and he WILL grow to love it. i can't thank my dad enough for getting me into the vw hobby, and cars, quads, and dirt bikes in general. some of my best memories are wrenching and racing with my dad. BIG thumbs up biblethumpncop for allowing your son to be apart of what you're doing. it makes a huge difference Cool

Thanks James. I scored a bunch of parts today, and another dad helped me get closer to putting my son's baja truck together, for a small cost.

Pulled the drums off the back of the rail, everything looks to be in great shape concidering its all been sitting like 25 years. Just gotta clean up the drums and replace the axle seals and put it back together.

Eric, when are you doing the seals? If you're on the westside still, I'd like to come over to see that process. I did mine twice and they still leaked, so I put the stuff on wrong or didn't slap enough silicone on it. I know it's not good for my brakes either.

Thanks and PM Sent with my #.
Adam

fixed a broken throttle cable to pedal linkage bolt this evening, on the side of the freeway! Tried to pass a car who was seriously only doing 40mph down the freeway. Was still in 3rd gear, went WFO and pop, pedal goes to floor and i'm getting back over off the road. get out, look at the linkage at the carb, looks fine, sure enough, broke a bolt down near the pedal. pull out wrenches and search for a bolt, lucky for me i had one in the car. took the broke one out and had the new one in, in about 10 minutes. scary/exciting all at the same time!

HAha, been there done that! I hate breaking down after just getting past someone, so I've learned a little more patience in my older age. Well maybe not that much, but I'm trying. Glad you were able to make it unassisted. Smile

Throttle pedal broke the welds on my 75 Nova and I had to drive it by reaching under the dash and pulling the cable. That was interesting. Good thing I was about a mile from home.

Slid the motor in the kids car today, waiting on a generator(coming Monday) then its time to fire it up. Recieved 2 motors from Biblethumpincop today to pull apart to build 1 for his new project. Need to do the rear seals on the rail, the wiring, brakes and finish the motor. Man I have a lot of work to do.

Discovered I blew out the sidewall of one of my front tires and put on the spare. Drove up to QT to fill it up with Gas. Vacuumed out the interior and took inventory of my spares (Voltage Reg, Fuel Pump, clamps, Clutch Cable).

It's Ready for tonight. Smile
