That's what I was just thinking as I was working on the car right now.

This time next week I would be in 3rd place leaving the sand and headed towards the mountains
also Can't wait.!!! DRUMMOND #1033

First off I want to say and give a HUGE thank you to Tony for giving us this amazing opportunity and experience. I'm officially hooked on desert racing now Smile

Congrats to Adam McCollum on his 2nd place finish in 1588!

Congrats to the ladies in the 2 seat Funco tandem car 1599 for finishing their first desert race!

Thanks to Scott for keeping things fun and entertaining while running Wideopen Pit #3-aka "the sarcasm pit". I had a blast driving and working with Scott. Such a fun guy to be around!

My Race Report:
Overall a somewhat uneventful and easy going day at pit 3. Unfortunately Pepe Azul dnf-ed around mile 27 with cv issues. Over the race radio we also hear that Nick (1044) was out of the race with transmission failure. The girls are still going strong, making stops at each pit. The first trucks and cars start coming through pit 3. We're ready for some action! Duane Drummond (1533) goes by heading towards pit #4 looking good. I can see the yellow of Adam's (1588) roof coming in towards the pit. Adam pulls into the pit, just requesting some water and a once over. Car looks great and is running well. Adam takes off from pit 3 looking great. Eventually the girls (1599) pull in to pit 3. We give them water and look the car over. We're informed that Nick is about 2 miles back from pit 3. As we look the car over, we discover an oil leak and check the oil, they're a quart and a half low. We get a quart of oil in the car and send them on their way.

We get word that 1044 is actually out due to a cv problem. The limit-strap clevis came loose, wrapping around the axle, pulling the axle out of the cvs. A 4wd truck tows him into the pit. Once we decide that we can fix the car, a chase truck shows up with some parts to fix the axle. Tim and Scott work on the axle while i work on reattaching the limit strap. some spacers, bailing wire, a zip tie, and a new nut later, the limit strap is back in. In the meantime the axle has been reinstalled. Nick is back in the car, giving it a quick spin to make sure everything is okay. We dump some gas in the car and send him on his way.

Everyone has loaded up and headed back towards Start/Finish. 1044 has started the 2nd lap, and is well on his way. As we get closer, we get word that the cv has given up again. All 3 chase trucks get to the car, and we go to work again. The cv had gotten SOOOO hot, that it had melted the balls in the cv. As i'm loosening the cv bolts i can feel the heat coming off the cv and axle, burning my hand through my glove. Me and tony get the bolts out of the cv and tim starts evaluating things. The splines on the axle are toast, 1044's day is over. Hook the tow strap up and headed down the road back towards the trailers.

As Scott and I go to leave, we pull forward and start to flip a U-turn, and the truck sinks into a silt bed. We get close to getting out, but end up needing a yank with a tow strap. A long, hard day, but well worth the experience of how to pit and chase for a race team, as well as the overall experience. Again, I cannot thank Tony enough for getting us all together, and providing us with this AMAZING opportunity.

First off Tony thank you and your whole race crew for making me and Cody feel welcome! Secondly thank you for one of the most amazing weekends I think I have ever had! When we were at the 10 car changing the cv out on the track every body pulled together to try and repair the joint, the ease in which everybody worked together was really cool, everybody had a job and did their job! kinda like ants. we were helping also, boy I wanted to get him back in the race! the adredelin was really pumping! Thank you for all of your work on the logistics, I bet you pulled some late nights figuring out all of the details. And lastly thanks for the cool place to stay, they were some pertty nice digs. Kenny, Cody and the rally KIA!
