transmission started making some grinding noises tuesday/wednesday. concluded thursday that a bearing was going out. took the motor and tranny out today and discovered that the main shaft bearing was disintegrating. Got a new bearing and started putting it back together. should be all back together and driving again by monday at the latest.

Replaced the ignition switch and tried to bleed the brakes, I think the master is bad. No pressure in the rear. So now i need to replace that.

Nope still having issues. Replaced the wire too and still having issues. May need to swap out the starter.

Played with the brakes tonight now I have none. HAHA. I did discover that the pushrod for the brakes was adjusted too far out. Anyone have a pressure brake bleeder I can borrow?

Called up and put insurance on it today. Now to go to dmv and sign an "Affidavit of non-use" so I don't get penalized for not re-registering or having insurance on it while it's been sitting.

The Goods and the Bads...

The good is the car is mostly done out back. Also turned it around to work on the front half of the car. Battery is bollted in place etc. Back wheels are on.

The Bad...The egine at one point got water in it Sad The plug in #1 had a little blue corrosion. #2 & #3 are fine. The Plug in #4 has real orange rust on it. I Was unable to turn the motor over 360' by hand. Looks like the water sat on the rings and rusted away. I was able to rock it back and forth about 300' but still it would not make a full 360'. Filled up all 4 bores with WD40. let it sit for about 5 mins or so. Rerocked it back and forth. Was able to make a full 360' Refilled the bores with WD40 and did it again. it is now free and spun it over with the key a few times. Blew all sorts of nasty junk out the plug holes all over my nice new paint and radiator.

Hope I have no real damage done. Will find out soon. I might as well do a PSI test before putting in the new plugs. We will see at that point.

I also have everything to install my brand new Saco rack with all the needed hime joints needed to fab new tie rods. Now all I need is a welder (neighbor has one) and it too cool off enough to stand all the grinding and welding.
So after I finished working on the motor I discovered that the gas had kindly dislodged 3 push rod tube seals. So the heads had to come off. While I had the heads off I rebuilt them. I pulled the valves out cleaned the combustion chambers and all the valves. I also laped the valve seats. This is not an easy process. Pulling a exhaust off is not a big deal, add a turbo to the mix and that's just a pain. I completed one side yesterday and i will do the other side tomorrow. Then I can start installing my saco rack.

Went down and bought a years registration, came home and installed my new brake light lenses. Going to go for a little ride and put some fresh gas in it. Hope I get there and back. LOL

Made it home! Starter doesn't work all the time from the ingnition key, but works when crossed by a screwdriver. I'll probably just make it push button start and not hassle with the stock stuff. Has a little flat spot, but it might go away with a little tweaking of the carb, etc. Definately want a quieter exhaust.

Use a Bosch 30A relay to fix your starter/key problem.

Starter wire (Purple) to pin 86
Ground wire (Black) to pin 85
14ga (orange) wire to from Starter Main cable to pin 30
14ga (orange) wire from relay pin 87 to sarter solinoid

works just like your screwdriver jump. the relay does not need many volts to be kicked from the key.

You can also make a push button start that works from the rear of the car too. Run a wire from the battery lug on your starter to a button and from the button to pin 86. Push the button and the starter will turn. Cool...

Nice RACK! LOL Thanks AZBaja (Daryll?) I'll definately look into doing something like that! Funny thing though, swapped batteries and didn't have any issues.

Just got back from a night run at Table Mesa area! Friggin awesome, it's been too long. Took a buddy with a 4x4 as a backup and he was impressed with some of the places we went to. Smile

I tried a big hill climb about 3 times, but it was way too loose and I couldn't get enough momentum or traction. So we took the by-bass hill climb on the left and went down it twice. Smile

Tested out my skid plate and now it is a purfect shape of the nerf bars that hold it.

I know my steering is a little off, and I wish my oil pressure was better, so there's still more work to be done, but at least I'm getting to finally have a little fun with it. Smile I'll check on the rest of the carnage tomorrow when it's light.

Since you asked what we think...
It looks as if you're getting the suspension way ahead of the chassis structure. That wider beam on the stock pan head can be very easily bent, long before the car can use all of the potential of the suspension and steering you already have in it. There's a huge amount of leverage on the end of it when you hit a bump. And while it may be made of stouter material than the stock beam, and you have the braces to the front corners of the pan, but it will still be very EZ to bend.

It needs to be tied into a full roll cage to spread loads through the whole car.

Keep going. You're making it better.
