Awesome build that thing looks great! Is that stock trailing arms and link pin beam in the front suspension, or are they extended at all??

Time to move onto the class 5 resurrection project.

I'm selling it or trading it! Whichever comes first!

I posted this on the video:
Quote::
Nice video and a pretty neat car. I've liked a number of things you've done in this build. As an offroad race Tech Inspector...There are a few things I have issues with. But it's a cool car. Anybody wants to know my Tech issues can email me @ Dustymojave at Hot Mail {Dot} Com

I like the car and the video. To point out some rules violations in the build of the car:
- Seats set back in the cab: Video 2:43-46 - Class rule does not allow
- Aftermarket pedals and master cylinders: Video 1:45-47 - Class rule requires stock pedal assembly and master cylinder in stock location.
- Holes in Firewall around bumper to cage tubes are too big: Video 1:31-35 / 2:11-17 - Safety rule
- Heater Ducts should be closed up as "firewall" openings: Video 0:59-1:05 - Safety rule
- If there is a fuel cell inside the cabin, there should be a firewall between it and the seats. It should cover from floor to shoulder height and body side to body side. If this firewall is built like that, the holes and heater ducts mentioned above can be ignored. - Safety rule
- Fuel filler needs a splash plate so refueling can't splash the co-driver. Video 2:01-10 - Safety rule

- At 1:27 + 1:45 in the video...lower beam brace dead ends against the A pillar. Could collapse the A pillar in a front hit. Upper braces not so much of a problem in this regard due to the vertical section above the beam which would allow this tube to bend there without endangering the A pillar. But push from the bumper to the horizontal part of the upper beam brace WOULD transfer loads to the A pillar. Speaking as a fabricator, that vertical section of the upper beam brace should be angled at 45* or lower, but then at the A pillar there should be an 'X' in the door opening backing up the upper brace. That upper beam brace tube does very little structural strength wise as it is. The lower brace should meet the A pillar at the door sill bar. - These are basic fabrication and roll cage structural design issues.

These issues will probably get past some Tech Inspectors and some organizations... In fact I KNOW they will. But they violate the SCORE, BITD, SNORE, and MORE rules for a 5/1600 race car. Some of the violations could get the car protested by competitors and disqualified.

I've not seen the rest of the car well enough to verify that the rest of it would pass Tech Inspection. These are the issues I can see from the video and this thread. I'm NOT trying to be a mean bad guy. Just pointing things out which you and others may not know. Like I said above. I LIKE the car and a lot of things done in building it.

Not too concerned about anything that will not pass tech. I have no plans to race it now or in the future. Car would have no problem running any CODE or RECORD sanctioned race along with ADRA and SADR races here in Az.

At worst it is a really fun play car for someone. I have no need for it any longer, so I hope someone can use it.

Thanks for the feedback though. I now have an old class 5 car I need to get on the road.

That was what I had figured through most of your build. But the thread IS called "5-1600 Build"...And it does have race numbers on the sides in the video and the left photo below. Lot of calling it a racer for one which is not intended to be raced. It lead me to think you had intentions of using it or selling it for racing in 5/1600.

I don't recommend gambling on that as Art Savedra of A.R.T.S. does Tech there as well as in the US races and has been advising the Tech Inspection for the new HDRA organization as well. This past week we were working alongside a bunch of the ADRA people at the HDRA Dusk-Til-Dawn race.

As a "Class 5 car" is it to be like this 5/16, a looks-like non-racer? or do you have other plans for it?

The class 5 car was a former MDR/SNORE car we raced 2006-2009. That one will be rebuilt as a prerunner. I currently have an ecotech 10 car we race.

I have raced CODE and Record in the past. Believe me, they would rather let someone slide a little on tech then lose and entry fee. They won't overlook obvious safety infractions, but they have a little wiggle room.

I know that here in the states the safety concerns are very high and would expect them to be adhered to strictly.

Two guys from Texas with a pocket full of cash and a trailer showed up today and took it away. 5-1600 is gone. Time to put a little coin towards resurrecting the class 5 car.

yee haw!

Time to spend a little cash on this one.

I'm happy for you that it's gone, but I'm sad to see it go. This car has been a big inspiration for me & what I eventually hope to do with my build.
