i want to introduce myself as a new member here. i´m a 42 years old vw enthousiast from germany having several old volkswagen (and two new ones!). there are: a 64 type 3 notch 1500 s, a 67 baja conversion (former swedish hazard streaker conversion), a 1972 beetle convertible 1302 ls (changed to old front end (with new floor panels, complete new front end (from a 76 standard beetle), a 78 mexican beetle (transformed into a 66 version), and a 1970 karmann gf buggy.
all cars except the buggy are under construction. the buggy is fully restored and will see his first drive out on first of may.
my newer volkswagens are: 2004 vw bus multivan and a 2005 transporter with multivan look (headlights, bumpers, etc. are from a multivan).
the last car in my "collection" is a non vw; it´s a renault fregate domaine affaires from 1958. a six seater break from france.

the last bought car is actually the car i´m restoring now. it´s the baja. check out my personal baja bug blog under: www.prostreetnotch.blog.de
if you´re not that good in german, feel free to ask me all you want about my cars. the other blog i have is the one for my buggy karmann gf; visit this site under: www.karmanngf.blog.de

Hey pro,
You should move this post to the "New Members" area from the main page. I looked at your blog, some nice Baja's there, but I don't speak (or read) German. Rolling Eyes

Again, welcome to the site.

Willkommen auf AZBAJA.
German to English translation courtesy of Google.

German to English translation of the Baja
Here I have a few new pictures to Baja.
The first time the front with the new (really new, since NOS!) GRP fenders:

i65.servimg.com/u/f65/...ont_14.jpg

Then, the rear view with two different wings was (before I noticed not so directly, but it is huge, what is missing or has been otherwise is laminated:

i65.servimg.com/u/f65/...rgle10.jpg

For direct comparison:

i65.servimg.com/u/f65/...tfla11.jpg

And two views, each at an angle from behind. Maybe you've seen it, the hood cover is left eating laminated NEN shorter than the right, which I have to change.

i65.servimg.com/u/f65/...ck_s12.jpg

i65.servimg.com/u/f65/...ck_s13.jpg

I'm pretty sure that it is the rear wings of the Baja Bug Kit (the yellow!) For the version for the Streaker is and the white are for the Bugeye Kit. Or is it just different manufacturers that have copied from each other

so. i start with the car i found on the "bugnet" here in germany.

located not thar far away from me, around 90 miles, i contacted the previous owner, we fixed the price and i hauled it back home.

here is a picture of the car the owner sent me via email:

80´s look, with decals on it. front end was already sold by him, as well the front fenders and the bumper bar.

the car is a 1967 build version. to make some money, i sold the wheels and the front axle with brake discs. the benefit was the price of the car.

So you now have no front wheels and no beam, as well as no front bodywork. I hear it is difficult to get Baja Bug fiberglass there.

So now what are your plans?

well, over the last two years i could find some stuff here in germany. so now i have almost two complete sets of different body kits. my favorite one is the bugeye version. i could get the complete kit with front steel bumper and rear frame, as well the side bars for small money!

in the time between finding a body kit i began to build up a steel front nose. i took some old front fenders and cut out the headlight section to have the support for the front lights. the rest has been done by myself. here are some pics of the "production:

i took some pictures from the net and formed a steel "frame" that i welded with only a few spots to the body:

like a chess pattern!

as you can see is, that the front hood has been already changed , too!
in this case, i took an original 68- front hood

and cut away what i didn´t need.

i shaped the roundings by hand with a piece of iron and an aluminum hammer.

then the rest was adding hand formed sheet metal to the frame. after all, the chess patterned frame was removed.

the middle section wasn´t that difficult to create.... here is the finished section:
