Well body is at the painters, got a little more progress to share

Ok I have the engine apart and the previous owner said this was a 2074 stroked engine. Looks like the crank has weights welded on and it has 8 dowels at the flywheel. The cam is way to big it says Engle 130 I think I should step down to a 120 or 110. I'm going to post some pics if anyone can give me some insight to what I have the comments would be greatly appreciated.
What the hell are these little jets for looks like oil is in them?

I believe the brass jets are oil squirters. Behind the jets they probably drilled through into the main bearing oil passages. They are to spray a metered amount of oil into the bottom of the piston cavity. This should help to cool the underside of the piston. Theoretically then you can run more ignition timing and / or more boost on a blown or turbo motor without detonation. You cannot spray too much oil or you run the risk of overwhelming the rings and pushing oil past the piston into the combustion chamber.
This is cool as I have never seen this done on a VW engine. I may have to try this on my next motor.

Well that's good news for once, "no signs of oil fouled plugs so the amount must be close". Any ideas about the crankshaft,is a welded counter balanced type acceptable and what is the chance the stroke has been increased?

Those are piston oils. Any picture of the intake port. While it might be an illusion those look like stock valves. Do you have a picture of the intake port. For the Baja a w 100 or W 110 style cam would be the smart choice.

No but I have to agree the heads look like the least modified parts other than the rocker shafts and elephant foot adjusters and the double springs, the heads do have bronze guides though. I think the PO may have had high dollar heads on the engine and removed them when he sold me the car.

Well taking very crude measurements with a caliper seems like stroke is 69mm so it looks like the crank has just been counter weighted not off set ground. So looks like a 1915 is what I really have here.

Ok I got good news and bad news today at the machine shop, the crank and case are both good to go just clean um up. 25mm rods and mains, case is standard and has not been cut. Bad news is the 041 heads,they installed 40 mm intakes but they cut the bejeezus out of the chambers "There only 30 CC measured without the .040 copper gaskets. Doing the math I will need a .090 barrel shim, and will need to stack a .060 and .030 copper head shim to get me in the 8.5 comp ratio range. The engine will be a 1914/15 is this going to be acceptable? I hate to buy another set of heads I'm not looking to build a race engine here. The 10 + comp ratio just isn't going to work in the Florida heat. A penny for your thoughts Rolling Eyes

Engine is almost complete, ended up being a 8.3 compression ratio. Heads are 41 type with 40 intakes and a very mild port matching job. Going with a single 40 carb ,to keep the tires from throwing water up at dual carbs. Could have made allot more power with duals but I'm not looking for max power here.



Still no body yet from the painter,so next will be making the E brake cables work with the aftermarket trailing arms.
