I am looking to purchase a tubing notcher, and I am looking for suggestions. I dont want the harbor freight one and I dont want to spend $500. Does anyone know of a decent notcher in the $100-$200 range? I plan on using it mainly on 1.5" and 2.0" tubing. Thanks.

Mine came from Williams Low Buck Tools. most of the time I end up using a chop saw and die grinder.

I had a lowbuck notcher and a harbor freight notcher. Both worked fine, the hole saw was the key to it. The HF notcher is very soft metal though (i used in a drillpress, mounted to the base). Both worked ok, but in the end I stopped using them. Like perrib said, I now just use the chopsaw and anglegrinder/bench grinder.

I have one of those tools that slides over the tube, has fingers that you push in to mock what the notch needs to be. I just trace that onto the tube and throw it into the chopsaw - much faster when doing a full cage.

Just my 2c

Also, this has come in handy as well:

metalgeek.com/static/cope.pcgi

Just enter your info, the angle of intersection, print, wrap cut, done...

Essentially, I use these:
vansantent.com/pipemas...ndividuals

Pretty much does what that printout does on the fly

I tried the harnor freight notchers, and they wear out pretty fast. I bought the williams notcher about 4 years ago, and its still going strong. Worth the money, and works in seconds.

After a little research, I think I have decided to get the tn-100. They make a nice bender too that I might have to get also!

I used a jd2 notchmaster which was pretty good. I used some ugrades from a company called swag offroad which helped out but in the end I sold it and bought this:

Really really really nice and it has the ability to notch on bends because of the way it clamps onto the tube.
