Ive never been a big pict fan.....but then again ive always run 1600 or larger and always thrown on 40 Dells.
There will be a pict person come around....as for being not vented....im thinking thats not the issue unless the cap is SUPER SEALed.

Thanks,

The filler neck should have a vent. There should be a small (1/4") tube in the top right rear corner of the tank next to the filler neck. I really don't know any reason for installing an alternator to affect it as you describe.

I have the vent as you described. A new question...

I am looking for a moderate increase in power from my 1385. This led me to these questions... HELP

1. What type of performance increase will I see if I put dual carbs on it?
2. Will my upgrade be similar to running a stock, single carb 1500 or 1600?
3. Since my p&c are 83mm, can I bolt on a set of 1500 heads as its my understanding they are 83mm compared to stock 1300 which are 77mm? Then mount dual carbs?
4. Buy another 40hp manifold had have them customized for dual carbs.
5. Sell the engine and buy an unknown used 1500 or 1600 based on my budget?

Thanks in advance.

I say the easiest route is just selling the 1385 and upgrading to a 1600. Even if you buy a used one it can be freshened up for less than $1000 and there are so many more things you can do and a lot more bolt on goodies for a larger motor.

Earthquake is sending me a 40hp manifold that is chopped up. I will use it and mount dual carbs on my 1385. I hope to have it completed this month.

Well, I sold my engine today so I can go bigger. I have a lead on a 1600.

The engine was pulled tonight and cash was exchanged for it-full price! Dirtjunkie and I are headed tomorrow to check on a 1600. I hope to learn how to build an engine by watching/helping Eric. He's good people.

Budget dictates the build. It is primarily a street bug that ocasionally sees dirt. I need it to pass emissions and have decent gas mileage. I prefer dependability over anything else. I would like it to last 60,000 miles. Thats 10 years of driving for me in this rig.

The CB cheater is a nice cam. Weber used to make a cheater cam noticable increase in power , smooth idle and passed emissions like a stock cam. While your at it build it to a 78x85.5 or a 1776, thick wall 1835. It will only add about $300 to the cost and will motivate that heavy class 11. You can keep the 34 pict carb.

I hit the jackpot tonight! Dirtjunkie helped me out by inspecting the engine I just bought. He'll chime in, but we were both astonished. Needless to say, I got lots of stuff. The pictures will be up shortly.
