I suggest removing the paint under the ground connections. Paint is a fine insulator. The fuse block has a ground buss on it and removing paint under that 1 screw would be better than having several such places. Use a star lock washer under the mounting screw head for "bite" into the metal for a good ground. From his days as an aircraft electrician, my dad had a small wire cup brush with a pilot point for a drill motor made especially for cleaning under ground screws.

The air cleaner is cool. But the oil filler will be a pain to get to now. I would have mounted the air cleaner on the left side. If you have a cam in the engine, it will have a "reversion wave" out the top of the carb when running. That's a fuel vapor which gets sucked in, but needs some space for best tune. It needs a plenum like the UMP boxes between carb and the duct. Maybe you could do something of that sort.

I just used some of those ABS sewer elbows for the heater ducts in my 58 Baja. The IRS arms swing up in front of the body ducts of the 58 (IRS bodies have the ducts higher up and angled up more). So to have heat for my DD, I had to get above the arms. A pair of 45 street ells on each side have done the trick.

But I like how you're doing this build. Nice work!

Thanks for the info on the electrical. I don't want to run into problems later.

I mounted the air cleaner on the passanger side so it was away from oil filter and exhaust. It might be a little inconvenient, but I will deal with it.

Engine is a stock 1600. I might upgrade later, but for now I should be ok. I am only running fox 2.0 smooth body shocks and don't need more engine than suspension. Upside down is always a bummer.

In reply to MojaveRacer208. McMaster is a good place for all sorts of plastic plugs and stuff like that. The best guys are the ones that sell to the Homebuilt aircraft guys. Try Wicks Aircraft or Aircraft Spruce. Bolts and washers that fit each other and you can buy them one bolt or washer at a time. You can not beat the AN spec stuff. Other cool stuff there also that you can use on the Baja also. Let me know what you think.

Took some time to scratch a few more things off the list.

Breather install

Finished up the oil lines and mounts.

The list is getting really short. New front tires should be in this week.
Big thanks to Spencer at General Tire for the hook up!

Tires Mounted

235/75-15 were cool, but 7.00-15 are even better!

General Tire Navajo 7.00-15

They should allow for better straight line stability at high speeds.

More sanding and painting was necessary.

Bought some old engine tins because the chrome ones I had just don't match the off road theme of the car.

Sand and paint!

Sand, paint and drill the valve covers for the breather.

Got rusty exhaust? Got hi temp paint.

Take it apart and put it back together!

I can see the end of the list! It is getting closer each day!

While at the Parker 425 contingency I found these little K&N air filters to use on my engine.

Car took it's first voyage today. Although it was only around the block, it did bring to light a few glaring issues to add to the list.

Need to bend a new brakeline for the rear. Old one gave up and leaked.
Hydraulic slave cylinder for clutch needs adjustment to work properly.
Engine leaks oil from behind crank pulley. Not happy about that one.

I guess I will get back to it in the morning. Ugh!

Good to here it had a maiden trip. Was that a sand seal or regular pulley? I forget.

When you looked at it there was a sand seal pulley on it and you told me to get a regular one. I bought a new stock pulley but I guess there might be something else wrong. Any ideas?
