I got a price from a guy of $900 for everything: used 3-rib trans (low miles, of course..), 930 CV's, and stub axles. Is that too high of a price for a package deal?
Thanks

If the trans is not built then $900 is a bit too much in my opinion. The trans is the key to everything. Check to see who built the trans and what is in it.

From what I gathered, the trans is bone stock. It was a project that he lost interest in a few years ago and is getting ready to sell now. Sounded like the CV's and stub axles might be used also.
What would a good counter offer be?

Price out a rebuilt, the core charge and new axles and cvs.

I'm gonna guess KNOWN good used tranaxle $300 used axles and cvs $300

Unless you are putting a bone stock T2 trans back into a bus, it is no more than a core. You will need to have it geared for the tire/engine combo used and beefed up for off road use.

If you will not be doing any heavy duty off roading, then build up a nice T1 trans. If you are definitely going long travel and are going to beat it up off road then go T2.

I don't race but have been known to play a bit hard and have had pretty good luck with known good used 3 ribs but I try not to abuse them. Granted I'd like to lower 3/4 gears about 10% just to get them a bit closer but for the highway stock 4th gear runs 3000 rpms @ 65 mph with the 33" tires I have. It does make sense if one is going to get it rebuilt to get it race prepped ahead of time. I'm with you 100% on it just just being worth core value if you can't take one for a test drive.

Dons Bus Box gets $400 for a core trans, Axles are worth $200, Offer $600 or just buy a rebuilt one if he turns it down.
