Just realized the rail I am building will need to have at least the OHV plate & tag, the problem is it does not have a vin. What do I do? Buy a vin plate & title & weld it on some where, or is there any other way to get a new vin & title for it?

In AZ you just go to the DMV with your box of receipts and get the title and VIN issued. For street legal you need, windshield, all working lights, horn, windshield wiper and seat belts, and your good to go.

Problem with that is I have no receipts, everything so far has been a trade or craigslist, swap meet deal. I got the rail itself in a trade for working on a Baja. I have almost everything I need now except the motor and a few small things.

in 2008 when i finished my rail, i trailered it to the dmv on greenfield south of the us60 and pulled thru the inspection drive. after about 10 mins. of looking at it, the 2 inspectors slapped a sticker on it giving it a vin number and gave me the paperwork, and that was it. they are pretty smart about if its home built or not.

i did have a folder with me with all copies of my ebay trades and anything i paid for (like from karls, etc) and alot of constuction pics just in case.... but they never asked to see them.

maybe just my luck but thats how i got my rail plated for the street. btw... unless the rules have changed, i dont have a windsheild.

but if you do get a plate .... get a full size plate.
