from everything i've ever heard, a/c is a joke in a vw. not worth all the time and headaches to make it work. roll the windows down and drive faster.

still not worth it in my opinion. i'm sure someone has rigged something up, but i don't think its worth the work. i drive my baja daily and it frequently sees dirt time, sure the summers suck when it's a 120 out, but its bearable.

Honestly they take work. Sometimes they're happy but they aren't the most reliable cars out there. It can be done and made to be fairly reliable but I suggest some type of mechanical background though

You constantly have to check the oil. You're also going to have to general maintainence work on it. Some months you'll get lucky and some months the points will go out and the motor won't run. You're also going to adjust your valves every couple of months in order to keep the valve train and heads in rip top shape. It takes work so don't assume it's going to be a cheap reliable car because it won't be

We just installed an AC system on a street bug this summer. For the money I wasnt that impressed with it. It was cooler than without, but sitting at a light it was still warm even with added fans on the condenser. The kit we installed was $1800 plus the cost of labor.
