www.thunderbirdexhaust...r-p89.html

Has anyone used the H4207 - 4 Pipe Chrome System from thunderbird? I would love to hear it and see it in person... but i would really like to know it performs... i am guessing the exhaust makes a good bit less hp (3-7 depending on engine output?) When compaired to a good 4-1 systum... but foreign me the looks and sound might make it worth it... anyone ever seen or used it in person? I want to wrap them with header wrap for (what i personally think) would be an epic hot rod look and sound... anyways, advice, experiance? (I am replacing stock exhaust at this point so i shouldn't loose any hp...)

Also, i am on my phone in my barracks, where i get crappy reception, so i apologize for my lack of bug pics...

Could someone post a pic up on here of this exhaust? Sorry and thank you.

Noisy as H*((. As for sound type...It sounds like a blown out muffler on a rusted out old Chevy.

Some used to call them good on torque, but ya can't prove it by me.

Lots of reasons why these were almost completely forgotten by the late 70s. But then, you're a Florida guy. Offroad VWs mean something different there than they do here in the California and Arizona desert.

Sorry. I glanced and mistook the "ft" for "fl". My mistake. But these exhausts are often seen on Florida style street buggies with wide low profile street tires and lots of chrome. California, Nevada and Arizona offroad VW guys tend to use them out in the desert where the performance is of more consideration than image. Offroad racers had pretty much abandoned these exhausts 35 years ago. And that is what the "Florida" reference was about.

If the car is going to actually be used offroad, most places require spark arrestors. I like to use a "Turbo muffler" on a 4-1 system. It makes a much sweeter sound to my ears than the harsh blat of the 4 open pipes. But different folks have different likes.

I personally thought that these would look really cool maybe just with header wrap or flat black... i am just younge enough to enjoy very loud exhaust (as long as it isnt ricey loud Wink and just def enough from my deployment to tollerate it. I may have to reconsider. But i'll take all that into consideration. Smile

Mojaveracer is right. In the southwest we need a spark arrestor of some type. Most racers use a supertrapp style or magnaflow muffler setup.

They are for looks only. Loud and untuned and most of the time the tube size is for a stock engine. Depending on how poorly they were designed often times they have to come off to adjust the valves. Plus you will never never know if your engine is trying to tell you something before it is to late.

Well... it is a shame they sell it as race exhaust. I would think a (supposedly) american company would make a quality product and sell it for what it is... would it degrade performance further than stock? Would it be comparable to the bazooka style exhaust? Kinda dissapointing... i thought they were cool cause they look real cool and are kinda unique... but i guess thats just cause i am new. Sad

Maybe ill make my engine a 1600 or 1776 built reliably with this exhaust, and buy someone elses half complete project engine and put some real exhaust on it...
