She was painted about 6 years ago to draw attention to the body sop I worked at. We didn't do anything but prep and paint. She sat for 4 years un touched and unloved. Now, its time to make her as nice of a car as she appears to be.
I'll be starting with doing the rust repair that was skipped, heater channels and floor pans, and go from there. this will be the slowest build ever. I'm an over the road truck driver so my Laboratory time is limited.

While the car is apart, reinstall the rear bumper and the motor mounts. Then weld the bumper brackets to the motor mount. It makes it WAYYY easier to install the bumper each time. Another tip for others when cutting Bajas...
Note in the picture above that the rear inner fenders are cut away between the fender flange and the firewall. This triangle of metal is best left in place to resist flexing of the fenders. I add a brace that runs along the edge of the metal and out under the fender Those $0.79 shelf brackets from the hardware store work well and are very inexpensive. For this car, since they are already cut out, a brace which extends to the bottom corners of the remaining inner fender panels would do the job. Rust can be an issue for braces in the rust belt. Truck bed liner under the fenders helps.

Thanks. For the tips.

The PO did some stuff I'm not real happy about. Rebuilding her gives me the opportunity to make corrections/adjustments.

If things go well today, I'll be picking up a good pan from a 74. Its a roller with a tranny. This will save having to do the pan halves ang provide a good front beam. I found rust in the existing beam.

Last Tuesday, I picked up a good '76 pan with suspension and tranny. Yes. I toes it home with my wife's car. saved a bunch of fuel $$.

I found some interesting markings on the pan on and near the frame head.



this one looks like a date stamp.

No, nothing new last month. Its hard to get laboratory time when I spend 7 of every 21 days on the road....and the wife has a "honey-do"list a mile long.

I've got a little more done. No more holes in the left side of the pan. Now to finish scraping the right side and fix a small hole near the battery.

Got the holes patched & the bottom shot w/ undercoated.


Cleaning the old body seal and painting some areas w/ Hammerite black
