Sounds like fun!

My son and I headed across the Mojave Desert for Lucerne Valley and the MORE Chili CookOff 250 race in my 58 Baja Friday afternoon. While he loaded the car, I gave it a quick mechanical check and found the left rear IRS pivot bolt missing. I have a few spares, but couldn't find them in a rush, So my son pulled one out of his 72 project and put it in. Thunder clouds looming over the area gave us some scenery watching the light show on the way there and while working Tech Inspection. After Tech we headed out of town for the Start/Finish area up Bessemer Mine Rd. just past the Rockpile where the tragedy happened last year. That road can get get VERY rough at times. It's not fun for those with motorhomes and toyboxes hauling race cars. We tent camped. But at 1/4 til 5, it started raining and we hadn't brought the rain fly for the tent. So I got into the Baja and listened to the rain for 1/2 hour and then was wide awake by the time it cleared off. Some fellow members of SoCal Bajas and some other Baja Bug friends from Desert Rides forums showed up. Both groups had come by offroad routes from Landers some 20 miles east. Steve Jones of SoCal Bajas was racing against my son's team in 5-1600. My son's team got 1st and Steve got 2nd. The AGS Racing team my son is part of already had the 2011 Championship locked up for the 2nd year in a row. Jones is 2nd in points. Then flash floods made getting home an adventure with Hiway 18 closed between Lucerne Valley and Apple Valley and some other water to cross near Hiway 395. Then our home town had SEVERE flash flooding with over 4" of rain in 20 minutes worth of a 2+ hour storm, including golfball size hail. There are now huge gullies 75 feet wide and 15-20 feet deep where before there were 10' wide x 12" deep drainage swales. 4' of mud on some roads and sections of roads washed away. Instead of doing work on my Baja yesterday, we spent the day cleaning up mud out of our driveway and garage and the road in front of the house. Better than the people down our block who had water and mud inside their houses and a foot of mud in front of the front door. Maybe later today I'll get a chance to do a little work on the Baja. Time for me to get out there now.

WOW! That's some serious rainfall! We were happy to get about a half inch the other night here!

Sounds like you were very lucky Mohave.

My stuff was mundane. The offset roof rack might have looked ok on a modified dirt track car but being out of place on a rail, I pulled out the porto power.
First I played with rocks.

It was tweaked in all directions.

While the welder was out I fixed this crack it was several months old and getting longer.

Time to get ready for Crown King.
Replacing the leaking Bilstiens with rebuildable Fox shocks.

Replaced a leaking oil cooler.

It is also getting a new bowden tube and clutch cable.

Looks like the rail might not make it for pizza today.

One step closer. Shocks are in.

I tilted the seat back and moved it forward to get a less distance to the pedals and more to the steering wheel.

I pulled my tank to have it boiled out. I'll pull the engine and transaxle soon to have the trans checked under warranty.

Inverted operation is not recommended for rail buggies.

Looks to me like a sharp left turn to straighten the damage from last month is what caused the misalignment this month. At least we know he's ambidextrous!

I think he needs a set of those outriggers with wheels they put on the sides of Suzuki Samurais to prove how easy they tipped over when slaloming at high speed with 1/2 the weight of the vehicle sticking 5' out to the sides.

J/K perrib. the damage shows very clear that you're taking it out and playing with it. And that's what they're for ... Right?

Been deal'n with an engine ping issue for a couple weeks. Tried highest octane gas available. Helped but not completely. Tried tweaking the dizzie but no difference. Today synced the kaddies. Did find passenger side was off a bit. It's mostly gone but only drove for 30 minutes or so.
This is really weird because it didn't do this until a few weeks ago. No changes were made before so.... Confused

I hope that works Eric. What did it turn out to be?

I installed an alternator today. I have to get a carb spacer this Tuesday since my carb now hits my alt. I think I got the wiring figured out for it too. I need to get it through emissions this month too.
