My name is Alejandro I have 50 years live in Buenos Aires, Argentina:

I have a VW 1960, 1600 cc engine, Firestone Destination Tires 235x75x15 front, rear Dunlop Grandtrek AT2 30x10.5x used R15, rims widened original sheet, the fiberglass kit is from Brazil Marc Rodao

Here in Buenos Aires there are very few Baja Bug

I like the fiberglass kit you have. It looks good. It is a little different styling from what is available in the United States. But you probably do not have much Baja fiberglass to choose from in Argentina. Nor offroad exhaust or other parts to build a Baja Bug. Will it be difficult to buy parts from America and have them shipped? Will Customs (aduanas) be a problem?

Recuerde que "Un foto dice mil palabras." Comunicando es mas facil si pone fotos. Es bueno que ya poniste muchos.

Y tambien bienvenidos a Mongoose1983 desde Chile.

Thank you for your words about my project, they are very encouraging and help me to continue with my “crazy dream”.

I hope to be succesfull. Here in Argentina, the “Baja Bug” isn´t very popular, because there isn´t enough stock of Bugs and people prefer to leave them as the original design.

Bugs had been imported from Germany by the Argentinian goverment and little businessmen since 1956 to 1962. The VW installed a factory in Argentina at the end of the 70´s, and imported 1300 cc Bugs from Brazil since 1980 to 1982.

I know the Baja because I´ve often travelled to Brazil where it´s very popular on the beach. In Argentina is available to bring products from the USA (EMPI, etc.), but tax fee and shipping canon are very expensive and some products are cheaper to bring from countries like Uruguay or Brazil.

The fiberglass kit of my project is a “Rodao” made in Brazil, it´s used and it was already in Argentina. I paid U$S400 for it. In Brazil, the same kit costs U$S1.300.-

And the cost of the original car was U$S1.000 with an unarmed 1.200 cc engine. Because of de high cost of the original pieces and qualified handmade, I prefered to buy a 1.600 cc engine (1983) and I paid U$S 450 for it. This project is called “Faster”, and it was named by my three years old son Fausto...

So, we have the original car, the kit, the engine, the wheels and tires, and I´ll keep you informed about the progress of my “dream”

(This message was written by Gabriela, Alejandro´s wife: “Excuse my English, I´m lack of practice in my handwritting. Very sorry”)

Alejandro

I see a lot of rust in the heater channels along the bottom of the body. Are there repair pieces for that available in Argentina? They are available in the US. I would think that they would be available in Brasil. You will also need to replace the pans.
