Hello all, I've decided to start a project. I'm doing a mudding bug.

What I need to know from you guys is the following

1) are there lift kits available? I wanna run 33's or 35's
2) is it possible to do it 4x4?
3) what's my best motor option?

Thanks for any info!

P.S. I'm not a noob to off roading or cars/trucks just a noob when it comes to bugs.

Quickest easiest way would be to put a Beetle body on a 70s, 80s era shortened 3/4 Chevy that had a four speed trans. Install locking hubs and Lincoln lock the differentials. $1500-$3000 depending on your scrounging and fab skills.

Can you 4x4 the Beetle yes you'll need a VW Vanogon Syncro for the 4x4 drive train. Non running syncros sell for $4k.
With 3"x3" or 3"x5" rear arms and a 4"-6" extended front beam widened 5or 6 " inches 33 and 35 " tall tires are no problem. You'll need a good size engine to turn them.
Check out this video. This is what you can do with a near stock Baja. It has a 3 rib transaxle with larger tires. He has several videos of it in action.

The Synchro idea perribmentioned above will involve fabricating a chassis, which COULD be done starting with a VW pan. That would be the coolest. Might be easier to fab one from tube. A couple of the members of SoCal Bajas offroad group have Synchro vans they offroad hardcore. Check youtube for videos.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have mentioned in my original post that I'm on a really strict budget of 4000-4500. Seems like I may not have deep enough pockets for my aspirations.

Wath oktr6rs video. I doubt he has $1500 in the entire build including the Baja.
