Just purchased a 72 Baja. Thus no heat and no ventilation at all. With a one peice window mod no air is drawn in from the little split windows. Anyone ever do any tinkering around with ducting running from the front of the car to the inside? Or some of those under the dash fan/blower units. Temps are getting high here in LA (lower Alabama) lately!

Pictures would be great, I have bored two holes in my car that let air in, but my baja has a one piece hood.

A friend suggested some small hood scoops and some flexible ducting. Sounds feasable, I may need to get creative with a valve.

these are spendy but it's what they are made for. They are all machined anodized alum.

Might be time to find a couple of unmolested doors.

Maybe restore the cowl vent system that originally vented through the front hood ahead of the cowl.

It's funny all the old hot rodders used to remove the cowl vent from their 1930s cars to be "cool". Now I see articles on how to put them back in ....VW guys seem to be the same. I don't get all the people who disable all the vents in their Baja Bugs, then run their tube frame rail buggy with no body panels. Then it's cool to have pop-out 1/4 windows in the Bug... and heated seats in the rail...

Most people take the heater boxes out of their Bajas, then look for other ways to heat the car.

Just can't make all the people happy all the time...

AzBaja....Sunroof yes would be cool but planning on a serious roof rack, currently have 2 Kayak racks, 2 bike racks, and an interchangable surfboard / ski rack on my FJ cruiser. Wife likes her outdoor hobbies!

tsutt....Good Idea! First thing that came to mind was aircraft parts with the price then looked at the company name. know aircraft part oh too well but great Idea.

peribb....Unmolested doors yes! Even better was me being a newb and ordering wipers and channels for a 72 and not even noticing it was changed.

MojaveRacer208....Another good idea! Nothing original is really left, the back side of the dash is another mess. Original owner closed off glove box, ashtray and vents with fiber board and bondo'ed over it. Dash is smooth but back side has duct tape etc and looks like ass!

Thank you for all your replies!

Bobby

Sorry for no reply, I know you guys take the time to answer and I owe you one back. Had a small mishap at work and investigations locked up my time.

Have aquired some aircraft aluminum gaspers (that was a great idea tsutt -- Thank you), next step is to find some scoops for the sides. If I do a 3 piece fiberglass mod to the front end, should have some room for them.

Was 103 today in Abalama, windows down at 60, was still 103!

Thanks for your replies!

Bobby.......

Did you get those? Now you nee a couple of NACA ducts. They are aircraft also. They look like a smooth cross section of a funnel, what they are is actually a cross section of a venturi. And are below flush mounted when air flows over them they create a vacuum and draw the air in instead having something sticking out in the wind creating drag. I don't know if stein has them but Vans aircraft sells them and they are fiberglass.

Doood! Another good Idea! Spruce has them a little cheaper but I found some plastic ones for cars. My wife is asking why we dont get some for the Tiger. Didnt buy the exact gaspers you suggested but aquired some from another aircraft I fly.

Thanks.....

Bobby

Okay NACA duct installed, now just need to work out a few logistics on ducting, valves and gaspers but will post pics when I do!

New pictures of the vent system, yes its getting out of control!

In a nut shell, I used a Naca duct, 4 inch marine bilge blower, aircraft aluminum heater box and y ducts, aircraft gaspers, 2 inch silicone hose, 1 inch silicone hose, various pvc splices and silicone couplers. Im running 3 gaspers under the dash and the two outer defog vents too.

Let me know what you think so far, dont have the defog vents run yet!
