If you go with a good tuned header it will pick uop some performance over what you have now. Your motor could use a 1 5/8 exhaust to get the air out of it better.

Recommendations as to what manufacturer and type that works best? Not too obnoxious.

Tri-Mill makes some nice headers. If you get one with a u-bend and put a supertrap on it, its completely tunable by how many discs you have in the muffler as far as backpressure and how loud the car is. The other added bonus is a super trap is also a spark arrestor and makes your car legal to use on US forestry roads. I have this setup on my fasty.

Empi exhausts are a hit and miss, but can be a little cheaper. I have one of them on my red baja and its fine.

Depends on how big your engine is. The only issue is that stock heater boxes have 1-3/8 Id heavy-wall tube. There are thin-wall 1-1/2 heater boxes available. I consider heat to be sensible. I've done lots of offroading in snow and cold. Where I live in the California Mojave Desert, it gets to sub-zero temps at times and expect freezing mornings for 7 months of the year. people who think heaters are not needed on Bajas must not be tough enough to offroad very much or only go to where it doesn't get cold in the winter.
