I once installed front disc brakes on a super beetle I had. It took me the better part of an afternoon, but would take someone else alot less time. It isnt as scary as it sounds. I think it ran me about $300 with new wheel bearings.

Some will tell you that if you're going to spend money on disc brakes, they're more effective on the rear wheels, as that's where the weight is at. You CAN have too much front brake on these light front-ended cars.

I think rears are cheaper too- I've had mine for awhile (and got them used), so honestly don't know that for sure.

Welcome to the site, btw!

Welcome...
Now, this being Arizona "Bajas"...
- Is the Super Beetle already a Baja?
- Do you intend to use it offroad?
- If it hasn't been converted to a Baja, do you intend to?

The beam front suspension on what most people call a "Standard Beetle" works awesomely well offroad. The Macpherson Strut front suspension on Super Beetles is great for pavement use, but not suited for hard offroad use. If you get serious about fabricating things, a Super Beetle can be converted to a beam suspension or even a double a-arm. and can then be very durable and offroad worthy.

There are other VW forums which devote entire sections to discussing why and repeating the statement that Supers aren't good for offroad. In those forums, there are a few who insist that they can and have offroaded Supers. but it always turns out that they don't "Offroad" them hard, or have modified the car to the point that it is no longer Macpherson Strut suspension.

Brakes, Great choice! I run 4 wheel disc, Why? I drive the car, or used to any way. If you are a baja, put the brakes on the front. Trust me. Then put in a praportioning valve to adjust them front to rear. Most of the stopping power is done on the front. I have done the try and stop with the bake disc only but it alwys works better with the front.
