I also did some body work on the front apron to pull it out and replaced a fender.
I used an old 3" exhaust clamp I had laying around; the u-bolt matched perfectly to the impact point from what ever caused the damage. I drilled 2 holes for u-bolt to feed thru and flipped the clamp around to its flat side and bolted it down on the inside of the apron. I attatched my winch to the u-bolt and pulled out the apron. It worked great. I welded up the holes and worked the metal a little and then painted it.
Wal-mart has Pumkin orange spray paint. So that's what I used to paint that portion and the replacement fender.

I don't have picture yet of the finished work. Disclaimer: I'm keeping this ugly, so perfection is not my goal as far as body work goes.

I'm an idiot....let me explain...

The latch mechanism to the trunk/hood was bent from the impact to the apron, so I had taken it off so i could line up the apron to the lines of the trunk/hood.

The idiot part.....

I forgot to fix the latch and put it back on and took it for a drive on the freeway......

Yep, you guessed it....BANG!!!!!! The godarn hood flew up on me on the freeway! It's F'd up beyond repair.

I've since got a replacement and I'll use the same pumpkin orange Walmart paint to coat it.

Passed emmisions and is now registered. It's a bonafide legal vehicle now.

I've only been driving it on the road for a few days now and it gets a lot of looks and comments.

I had one guy follow me to the grocery store just to check it out and ask about what it was.

Another guy yelled "Get that F***ing POS off the road!"

And tonight a guy followed me home and asked if I'd sell it! Nice guy. He wants to baja out a square too. I told him to check out the Monster Square build on thesamba and AZbaja for sure.

Looks Awesome man! Do you have that A/C compressor still, or any of the other A/C stuff? I need A/C parts for my Squareback.

I do, It actually was complete with the car. I'm going to hang on to it at the moment. Not going to run it right now for a few reasons, one I don't want to spend the cash to get it working and the other; I don't now that it'd be the best idea with our summers. I think the engine would run way too hot.

If you think of a price that will change your mind, PM me. I REALLY want that A/C stuff. I already have an under dash unit, I mainly need the compressor and bracket, and the condensor, but I will take whatever you are willing to part with.

I really like what you are doing with this car. Where did you find it? I actually think I came close to buying that car last year sometime, but I found a cleaner one instead. I especially like that you kept it fuel injected. Too few people really know how awesome a fuel injected aircooled can be.

Thanks for the compliments. I tried selling this thing a few times. I'm glad it didn't sell. I couldn't get it running both times I was trying to sell it. It turned out to be a faulty new condessor. I replaced it with another new one and it fired right up!

I talked to Bill at affordable German, he agreed that I should up grade to a better more efficient rotory compressor that wouldn't pull so much power.
However, I'm still going to hang on to it and convert it to an air compressor for my truck.
I really don't know what my plans are for sure, so I'm just going to hang on to it untill I decide for sure.

DUDE! I will go yank a compressor of a car in the junkyard for you if all you need is something to run compressed air on your truck. Don't use this compressor for that, I beg you. Do you know how hard it is to even find one of those? (If it isn't that hard then tell me where I can find one because I have no clue) If nothing else atleast let me have the bracket and condensor so I can rig up some other stuff.

LMAO! I just don't know what my plans are with it all. I'll keep my eyes open for you tho.

There are many York style compressors found on Ford, Volvo, AMC, IH, and Oldsmobile vehicles from the late 70's to the early 80's.

It is harder to find one with the hose connections on the side vs the top

That'd be interesting. Rattle can will have to do for now.

Right now I'm having a "bucking" issue, which I believe has to do with the throttle positioning sensor. So that's what I'll be working out next.
