Hello AzBaja!!! Very Happy
I just scored the MUTHER of all craigslist trades and landed myself a sick Baja! Twisted Evil Ive wanted a bug for a long time and definitely lucked out and landed myself one thats in real nice shape and mostly re-done.

Theres a few things I need to work on....clutch is first, then the balljoint situation needs to be addressed....

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

....Id like the frontend as high as the rear and bulletproof. I plan to use these kingpins.....these will bolt right up, right?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Thats it for now...I look forward to learning as much as I can from all you VW vetrans and thanks in advance...Im off to buy some metric sockets....

No. That linkpin front end does NOT bolt up to your ball joint car. It requires some modification. The tubes are spaced farther apart on the ball joint beam than on the linkpin beam. Adding that buggy front frame structure to a full roll cage in the car and cutting away some of the ball joint framehead would be one way to do it. replacing the ball joint frame head with a linkpin frame head would be another. A 3rd way would be to contact Daryl at Bugzyla about some conversion arms to put those spindle assemblies on your ball joint beam.

There are 2 "lines" visible in that photo guys. One is the fresh black with yellow stripe brake hose. The other is the grundgy looking plastic and fabric covered hose along the edge of the pan. That is the line from the fuel vapor canister to the carb. part of the emissions system. I've never yet dealt with one of those systems which was intact and fully connected. So I can't even tell you how it should be hooked up. But a manual will.

Charcoal canister, expansion tank (wondered what that was) and the lines all seem intact, so I'll prolly leave it. Thanks for the heads-up.

Yes, its a 72 super with an 1835 and a later bug trans (3-rib?)

From that point in the picture, the line crosses over to the drivers side, up thru the fender over to the pass side of the trunk and into the expansion tank.....I thought it was a reserve....

Also from that point in the picture the line goes back to the charcoal canister which was hangin on by a thread....should this stuff stay or go?

This kinda stuff was always the first things to go on my old mopars lol....

Depends on inspection for tags, I see you have a non stock carb, If all they do is the em test, And it passes no problem but if thay inspect for smog equip, then it should stay, that yr model is suppose to have it so they just might check, Dont know, never had anything new than a 67 inspected, And i dont have inspections in my state, and i dont think it a super beetle by the looks of your front shocks and ball joints, looks like a standard to me,,lol

The book says that equip came in the super, but I havent ran the vin yet so I dont know for sure

In Arizona (or Cochise County at least) anything pre-75 or registered as a classic is smog-exempt.

Wrong! Your car is NOT a Super. It's a Deluxe. Most Americans call them "standard" when they have a beam front suspension like yours, but all Bugs sold in the US were at least "Deluxe". They came with chrome hubcaps, bright trim around windows and along side of body and running boards, radio, carpet, 67 and earlier had bumper guards, etc. A "Standard" model was sold in Europe and 3rd world countries. They came with plain wheels/painted hubcaps, no "chrome" trim except door handles, plain window seals, plain bumpers with no guards, a filler plate where the radio goes, rubber floor mats, etc. Supers all had Macpherson Strut front suspension. 73 and later Supers had curved windshields.

If you don't have to smog it, I would delete the charcoal canister system. As it is now it's a hazard. But if you move to another county in AZ, the odds are good that you would have to get it smogged. Some counties require smogging cars back to around 68 (? - I'm in Cali, so I don't work under the same rules as AZ, but guys report smogging their cars on here. I'll leave it to the AZ guys to clarify on this).
