Finally got the engine put together, and drove it into Tucson yesterday. Went all the way to BAP to look at stuff, and on the way home it kept dying..it was acting like it wasn't getting any fuel. Help please? I think it may be the fuel pump =\

Did you fuel the car before going back?

If you did, it could be water contamination...

If not, get some fuel in the carb, and CAREFULLY disconnect the fuel supply hose, and then put it inside a clear glass jar with a lid and a punched hole for the hose... hold it CAREFULLY while another starts the car; have extinguishers at the ready...

You're watching for a pretty strong fuel delivery into the jar...if its weak or almost non-existent, its your pump...

Shut down before you over-fill that jar...or unpleasant hijinks will ensue...

Check your fuel for any water at the same time...you'll see it at the bottom of the jar...

REMEMBER...CAREFULLY, with all due respect that you're handling volatile liquids near a running engine...

No, I didn't fuel it before coming back. And the fuel filter is empty of fuel while the bug is running..isn't it supposed to have quite a bit of fuel in it all the time?

Make sure you do not have junk in your fuel lines change your filters. Check your tanks for anything clogging the fuel intake. Maybe a bad fuel pump.

If it is the fuel pump, where would I be able to get a replacement for fairly cheap?

Bought a aluminum dash. Hunting for gauges, switches, and buttons.

Looking for Autometer black faced gauges. Do not really need to be the same model line, just black. Speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, oil temp, volts, and cylinder head temp.

Anyone have used stuff they're looking to get rid of?

Any diagnosis? Symptoms? Kinda hard to help from here without info on what is or is not checked or working.

A fresh clean filter will tend to be nearly empty as the fuel passes through it quickly. A dirty one will look full of fuel as the fuel flow is held up in the filter housing. i know it seems strange, but it's true.

I suggest Chirco for a pump.

Got new clutch put in, new TO bearing, mounted motor, put vaccuum lines on dual carbs (hope this will work, I dont' have mechanical advance distributor) Mounted motor, hooked wires up (looks like thats where they go) drained oil (PO put oil in but never started motor, been sitting for a while, better safe than sorry) put on throttle pinch bolt thingy, put tube through housing also for throttle cable. Tomorrow I'll put new oil in,crank the motor to get lubrication, check valves for adjustment, put spark plugs in, put fuel line into gas can, and see if it starts

Take it to Johnson Valley while you can. There is a meeting this evening at Victorville about the Marine Corps Take-Over of the Johnson Valley area. We are losing it!!!!!!!!!!

You're elected (NOT BY ME!!!) Senator says nobody goes out there anyway...It's just empty desert...I suppose the tens of thousands who were there for the race car crash into the crowd in August don't count...
