Well as i said before i bought a 64 baja with a rebuilt transaxle and a 1600dp motor pulled apart.

heres a couple picts of it

now as for the motor im trading all my stuff in as a core and $2200 for a built 2110cc motor. The guy at the shop im buying it from used it in his personal bug and on a stock transaxle ran right under a 12sec quarter. Now im not going to be using it for that but it will be nice to have the balls to get out of the way of someone.

To do list

1. pull body
2. find all rust spots and fix them
3. make a custom 3" body lift
4. make a 6 point roll cage
5. sand body and take all bondo off and weld in holes
6. paint body, either black and white or John deere
7. install body and motor
8. put new tires on it
9. make bupers and skid plates
10. what evers left to do

An engine that runs high 11s in the 1/4 mile is going to be high strung except at the dunes and on the street. But it will be fun. Smile

It is like the tortoise and the hare, Both will get you there just ne is High Strung but the other is just Dependable.

Race type engines are not allways fun to drive every day on the street. I de tuned my car just to make nicer to drive.

The 2110 sounded like WAY too much motor for that Bug. You would be hard pressed to keep gear boxes in it unless you were spending 2x the price of the engine for them. And I seriously doubt running that time with a "stock" gear box without grenading it all over the strip.

I suggest rebuilding that 1641 and having some fun with the car 1st. Offroading a Baja unless you only want to do big sand dunes is better done with mild hp. The suspension is a long way from ready for that sort of horsepower. A lot of newbies think that the 1st thing they should do is start making more horsepower. But a stock 1200 will get that bug going plenty fast enough to put it on its head. I did that with a stock 36hp motor. I've recently watched a tube frame Class 5 unlimited race car with a 1776 and a single 40 Weber set the fast lap at a desert race against other racers with 275hp 3 liter Type 4 motors. It isn't all about horsepower.

I'll regret selling her, but I've got to many projects. I can't wait to see how you resurrect her.
