Found out today that the previous owner of my Baja already had case savers in the engine case..and he stripped them right out of the aluminum, so my self tapping studs are now useless, and I'm gonna pretty much have to buy a whole new engine

Spent the last two days talking to powder-coaters to do my pan...

Pricing out new link pin frame heads compared to a steel adapter set to mount a linkpin in a balljoint front end...

Finding a good welder...and I hope he can do fabrication...

All that fun stuff...

Tore it down and found my crankshat to be all bad. Case and everything else is in good shape. Found a 78mm crank set up with new rods and needle bearings. Never heard of needle bearings befor this. Comes with all other bearings too. The price was less then $300 for all of it. Add my 94's and we'll be up and running once again. The price was my decision maker...lol.

I bought two lightly used high back poly jaz seats and covers for the buggy for less whip lash effect, i felt they were a good deal at $60 for the pair.

Now how do i mount them so i dont hit my head on the roll bar because they sit up a bit higher...?

Good bargain. But the answer to your question will have to begin with another question...What do you have for seat mounts now?

Your answer with photos will help the rest of us help you figure out whether modifying your existing mounts or starting over will be the best solution.

rolled new baja off the trailer, and into the garage, man i could fit 3 of these things in my garage.....hmm mmmmmm....... wife said no way. Was going to go pick up second but it was snowing and I don't like to work out in the snow, especially while using methods that aren't that great to load a vehicle onto a trailer. Maybe monday, then the fun begins. What does it mean if my oil pan says BRAZIL on it, does this mean the motor came from brazil and coulb be much newer than 1965?

I fixed a cracked engine case. The 1776 in my daily driver got an odd crack in the top of the case above cylinder #1. So I spent a few days fixing it. Story in the thread on my Bug.

Cases came from VW since 1970 with case savers already installed.

You may be able to buy a case. Then you have to have it machined or at least checked by a machine shop for the correct bearings to work with your crank.

I actually drove my black car today. Started it up and drove it backwards twelve feet. Shut it down. Good times.
