Very nice ! The color is very Dutch. They sell orange stuff because of the soccer games in South Africa everywhere now.
I love the little details as the way the glove box sinks in the dash and the way the hood is mounted. The engine is huge! Very good. Can't wait to see the progress.

Another cool detail we came up with was a winch mount. With this piece of square tubing, I can store the winch behind the back seat, when not in use.

Now I can say, "Get in the back seat winch!". Laughing

Finally, some progress to report. The car has been in the capable hands of a friend who has helped me work out some ideas on both the rear suspension and the radiator mounting.

I think the radiator mount turned out cool with the solid steel rod mount he designed and the attachment of the sheet metal/aluminum to hide it in a "wing".

I'm going to add some louvers to this top piece to open it up to the airflow more...

Now some of you may have noticed the odd location of my shock absorbers...If not, take a loooong look now....

That right there is a custom, cantilever suspension. If there's another one out there in the world (on a Baja Bug)....I haven't seen it. Have you? I would be curious to know. (I just googled "Cantilever suspension Bug" and got like zero hits... Cool )

Anyway, he did an AWESOME job. The arms allow the suspension to move its normal 7-8 inches while only using half of that travel in the shock. It allows smaller shocks and obviously a different placement. I didn't have to cut holes in my body panels to add a longer shock....very cool. Here's some close-ups of the handiwork.

I like how the shocks are tucked inside the arm, and hiem joints are used to connect the trailing arms to the cantilever.

Nice job. I'll see if my friend has any pictures of his race rail that had double a rms and cantilver torsion bars.

The shock is very F1 race car. Also a few other high end kit type cars us this type of spring an shock mounting to lower body lines and clear tight spots.

That is a Plus 11 in cool

Nice set up.I have seen a class 5-1600 car with a set up like that, it has dual shocks mounted in the package tray area. I will see if I can find the pick I have.

I love the Bell-Crank shock mount, very F1!! I'm totally stealing that one when (if) I build a Baja.

Really enjoyed your build, what a sweet ride! Thanks!

Put some Herculiner on the floor pans and rear cargo compartment...

Easy, brush on application.

Painted my cantilever arms red for a little pop and fastened my air filter tube assembly in the only place it would fit...

I also finished plumbing my radiator lines so I could actually start the darn thing. All this work, and I still haven't started the engine...no idea if it will run at this point... Question

After chasing down a fuel leak, custom fitting a throttle cable, working through a broken clutch cable tube, re-welding the aluminum radiator, charging up the battery, bleeding the brakes...

I finally got the guts to start it up. And what do you know....smooth as silk: BAJA_RUNS

I got my hood, fenders, and radiator fin/spoiler painted. Still need to buff them out, but great to see the paint scheme finally come together.
