I've been a long time reader, new member, well actually i registered like 4 or 5 years ago it seems but couldn't remember my log on, and never ended up getting a baja back then, but now, tax returns and a go ahead from my CFO (wife) she has alloted some money for the purchase of baja bug for me. There are very few around the area (slc) and a few that are about 3 to 4 hours away, but have not made a decision on which one to buy yet. I am looking for something 69 or newer( or irs conversion) i like the 1 piece hoods too. So if you know where one is or have a running baja bug for sale let me know, if it's within a few hours i'll gladly fly down to pick it up and drive it home.
My real question is, does anyone know who owns or what mods the "bad a** baja" video on youtube, has done to it? Thats exactly what i want mine to look like. I was also wondering if the vin numbers are on the body or the pan? the reason is, 67 and older vehicles here in utah are exempt from emissions testing and it would be cool to do a body swap and not have to deal with those.
There is a 400 dollar stock 74 bug for sale near me but it has been sitting for about5 or 6 years, would this be worth looking into? it has some rust but, i won't feel bad cutting it up.

That looks really similar to Bajaboi727's old car that was on CL a bit ago (same paint, and from what i can tell, wheels are similar), but that doesnt look like AZ to me
If anyone else wants to help, here is the link

Titles generally follow the pan.

well i guess that rules out that idea, oh well., So on with the show. Still looking for a baja to start with. What is needed when a bug has been sitting for a while, like 6 years?

ok , i see in the posts that they cut and turned the front beam, but does it have a body lift? and do you think they notched the spring plates, or have different axles in the back that have a greater range of motion?

Definitely cut and turned beam (ball joint). I agree- no body lift. Hard to say about notched spring plates, but I'd guess likely based on the stance of the front end. Rear trailing arms look stock, so I'd guess the re-indexing of the torsion bars and notching the spring plates is probably only mods done to the rear (both are FREE, btw!).

Yes and free is always great. Thanks for the replies, i'm going to pick up my new baja on saturday, 3:45 drive down to the bottom of utah, ( maybe on my way back up i'll stop back in moab) haahhahah, it has a 1 piece front end, and originally came from arizona, so i'll post some pics when i get it and we'll see if anyone on here owned it at some other point in it's life. It's purple right now, with a blue hood and a mismatched purple door, so paint is going to have to be one of the first things I do to it.
If i remember correctly from years ago, weld up the shock towers, and the trailing arms ( don't have a box in kit right now) axles can take 12 deg so notch appropriately, bottom of the bolt hole when indexing the rear, and 1/4 turn on the front, maybe a hair less ( this will be my daily driver) my wife gets her near 300 hp (at the wheels) subaru back. Anything else i should do to start off with, i have a garage, a welder, (stick, from super long time ago) any suggestions on what type of welding rod to user? 6010?

1/16 or 3/32 inch 6010 or 6011 rod will work fine on those seams even if you cant get the weld area completely clean.

Buy my fully caged and titled body. Daryll aka Bugzyla built it. I'm selling it cheap.

wow that does look sweet, but there is no way that could pass inspection here in utah. they are super strict on wheel coverage and other crap. Plus I have already comitted to another baja, and possibly a second, the first is a swing axle, with rebuilt motor (never started) dual carb set up, comes with front and rear engine and front cage, racing seats and brand new gauges and a bunch of other parts, new pan for passenger side. the other bug is a 69 roller, i plant to put all the parts into the 69 so i have an irs bug with a link pin front. for well under 1800 for both.
Will the swing axle's engine mate up to the irs engine?
can i bolt the bottom of the linkpin front onto the bottom tube holders and just refab the top mounts? does this work? (does that even make sense)

The motor will work in a IRS trans it just needs to have a 12 volt 200mm flywheel clutch and press plate as far as the front end it would be easier to replace the frame head about $100 bucks and your time and welding skills just make sure its square and level..

actually i have 2 bugs, or will by the weekend, 1 69 (no motor) everything else is good, the other 65 complete car new rebuilt, so i can get the frame head and everything with no problem. I basically have 2 complete cars and only 1 motor. If you know anyone who might need some parts, i'm going to be getting rid of basically a whole car, i'm not trying to make money or anything, just help some fellow buggers out who may have low budgets like me. I might even stay with the ball joint front ( still haven't decided.
