I just have to say that this site and those involved with this site are awesome. I have just acquired a 69 bug and have always wanted a baja so I am thinking of making a little project out of it. So I started searching the internet for some assistance and this is the best place. It is getting me so pumped to build my baja and I don't have money yet to do it. So I wanted to say thanks to all you out there the AZBaja world that make this site great.

I live out in Maricopa and if anyone is interested in taking a look at my bug to see if it would be a good canidate for a baja please feel free to contact me.

Anyone from the Pinal county area? It would really be nice to get someone that's been working on VW's for years to take a look at my Baja. I'm located in Oracle, but would be willing to drive somewhere to meet up. I'm very interested in expanding my knowledge of these mini beasts. Smile

Thanks,
Tyler

Yeah I posted here about 5 months ago and didn't hear from anybody. I am in Maricopa which is a little far from you but I don't have the knowledge that you are looking for. I need assistance too.

Hey folks, anybody not busy on Saturday? I could use some guidance wiring our Baja up. It's currently sitting in Queen Creek/SanTan Valley and no towbar on hand. I have the harness loomed and pulled thru front to back. Nothing else connected beyond that. I realize this is short notice, so if not possible this weekend, maybe we can schedule another weekend before it gets too hot.

I'm doing wiring on my baja too. Just have a game plan and you should be good to go. buy one of the POP up covers too. it helps in the summer out here.

2nd do you know how to soder? It would be a good time to learn and do that for all your connectors now.

Hi I am a long time lover of the VW. I have been building them for close to thirty years. Four years ago I started a project to build the Ultimate Baja. It has been a log road a a pricy one to say the least. I am about finish with it. I am doing the final welding on the chassis the first week of july 2012. I am looking for people in north phoenix or surrounding areas to meet know and go play with. I need some help with the final assembly.

First off, Welcome to AZBaja. There are several of us here on the west side. I am located at 47th Ave & Sweetwater, let me know if I can help in some way. We have a meeting on the westside every First friday of the month in the area of 83rd ave & UnionHills. Check the Club AZBaja thread, as well as the events thread for whats happening.

There any baja fanatics in WA that you know of? So I have a factory 2.3 long block from an 86 mustang on my Baja now. I used Gene Berg tranz mounts as well as the type one nose adapter on the tranz when I had it rebuilt. engine has a couple pieces on it now but far from done.

I'm stuck on welding and suspension though. I have the primary hoop down and around the engine from he role cage but need to figure out the fabrication for the shocks as well as some help with the trickier welding. I really dont have the 3k the rally car shops here in Seattle want to build that back end for me. have the metal stock and welder ready to go though.

Anyone in WA that would be willing to help an armature and give some design pointers? I'm pretty upset with the stall but determined to press forward.

Hello guys, I just move from San Diego Ca. to Gilbert, Az., I am driving a 68 Type1 semi-baja and want to mention that I did not burn any oil or use any, but my engine arrived soaked with oil, I clean it and took it for another ride for abut 20 miles and noticed that is leaking from the crankshaft area (behind the pulley), now here is my dilemma, it does not have the original pulley, or the original oil filler neck (generator stand) or air cleaner, I noticed it does have a respiration underneath the oil filler where there is like a small "air filter" for lack of a better name (does look like the air filter I have in the carb, a metal mash with some material inside) so there is no hose to the carb air filter. After some investigation via internet I found 3 options, the first one I am confuse.
1.- Add an oil breather and release pressure from head valve covers and oil filler neck.
2.- Add an oil sealer behind the pulley
3.- Put the original pulley since the groves are the ones needed for the push of the oil back to the engine.
Since number 1 is my dilemma Shocked , please explain, how does a hose getting to a box will help to release pressure since technically the respiration hole is open with just a filter? and it does not leak from there?
By the way, I am driving a 1600 dp with a 34pic carb and electronic ignition, also new to the area and frustrating not knowing my VW way around here (parts, info, buddys, etc.). I appreciate any help
Thanks
Carlos

Remove the pulley and see if it appears to have threads where the pulley enters the case. These are there to force the oil back in, also the oil slinger needs to be there. If the area behind the pulley is smooth it is for a sand seal. Either install a seal or a stock pulley. If it a stock engine make sure the breather is open. Larger engines need more breathing. If oil is blowing out the ring seal is bad.
