Wow, looks amazing. Great job with all the quality work and not taking any shortcuts. Can't wait to see it finished.

Btw, are you running 5x4.5 bolt pattern disks?

Also, how many gallons is your cell? Looks familiar Cool

I am running 5x4.5 chevy pattern wheels. Figured it would give me more options on wheels. Yeah, that cell does look familiar. Mine is the 15 gallon one.

Well, after 4 long years the "Baja Ghia" went for it's first test drive this weekend. We went to Glamis and met some friends, and after working on it for most of the morning on Sat was able to go for a spin. Here are the photos.

Still have several things to get worked out, like the CV's. Had to loosen up the rear suspension to almost nothing in order to get them to stop binding. Will have to go with some better CV's and longer axles in order to get the travel I want and need. Need to adjust the shocks all the way around, think I have the right springs, but don't think the valving is even close. Also, the steering absolutely sucks! Don't know if it's the toe in or the rack or what, but it's pretty bad, actually EVIL is a better term. Other than that, not bad. Cruised over to the drags on Sat and actually had people coming out of thier trailers to watch me go by. Had lots of people looking and a lot of good comments, so that felt pretty good. I have a few little things to do, then plan to enter it in the Bug O Rama this year. Will keep the posts coming on all updates.

Get rid of that rack and pinion and replace it with a Saco. I have the Saco in the fasty and it works great. All of the cars I have seen with the rack you have dont steer well and have a crappy turning radius.

X2. 5x4.5 is what I have on the baja so I could run the same bolt pattern rims as my brother's Ranger in case either of us gets a flat.

Great work again, just gotta work out the little kinks now!

i was wondering about your 3" body lift. how did you make it for the ghia and the front a rear pieces of it how did you make those too? and also how hard would it to keep the stock steering shaft and box after a body lift?

thanks

Thanks guys for the input. I'm currently planning to get it to the BugORama show here in Phoenix here in a couple weeks.

To answer your questions Mad Max, most of the 3" lift was fabbed by yours truely, other than the front piece that goes over the tunnel. Bugzyla makes a kit that you can weld together for this, and since the it is the same as a bug, it makes it easy. Otherwise, I used 1 1/2" x 3" square tubing for the rest of the lift. As far as using the stock steering box after putting the lift on, not a problem, people do it all the time. I just got stubborn and wanted power steering, which I think will be good once I get all of the bugs worked out, but it is a substantial cost. Figure at least a grand on the cheap end not counting cost of the rack.

Cool, Now are you a builder or a driver??? Seems like the Builders build cool cars then get tired of it...:( and start a new car. I hope you are a driver.
