Today i went hunting for the legendary beetle man, and about 50 miles north in the middle of nowhere alaska this guy hasatleast 30 complete beetles and piles and piles of motors, wheels, trans. i was so atonished. i mean even the junk yards have like 3 vw parts, and this guy has like 30 beetles, 6 busses, like 3 fastbacks, 2 notchbacks. so i picked me up some stock fenders in primo condition for like 40 bux and drove out, so i guess im saying even if you think parts are scarce youd be amazed whats around the corner. This is 400 miles into the interior of alaska may i remind you!

yes they will. when you park the bug for the night, place an old fashioned drop light on the engine block with a 40watt incandescent bulb (not flourescent). this will act as a block heater like on a diesel. let it idle warm for a few minutes before pullin out.

When I lived in Oregon, bugs always ran during the snow months. Very Happy

I seen an electric heater from.....JC Whitney? I think. I was going to get one for my Thing (the Car, although it is important to keep that warm as well).

You may need a better Alternator to run it though. Here in Texas it is just a comfort thing, not so much a necessity.

you would have to use your oil for that heater. unless you got a water cooled engine. it uses your water for the heat. you can get a geo metro or other real small car heater core and a bilge blower fan for a boat for alot less money. or a small 12 volt squirrel fan.

I remember my uncle telling me that the mail carriers out in minnesota and other real cold areas used bugs to deliver the mail. he said they loved them cause the heat was almost instant. and they did use the lightbulb trick under the oil pan though(I know its not a pan).

Ooops. Embarassed I didn’t read it completely. Glad I didn't order it. thanks salty.

The Thing comes with one of those Gas Heaters. Think I may try and rig up a heater box on it. With the price of gas, I just can't see buring extra for heat.

so place the drop light where you see fit.

if your runnin baja style in the snow, be sure to add some flappage (mud flap like) between the engine and the rear tires (like a curtain). snow has a tendancy to build on the block, trans, and may even pack around dual carbs when sloshin through it. the flaps will keep that from happenin and your engine freezin up (brrrrrrrr......).

I'd just buy a cheap electric heater and have it sit close to the engine.
