Way to save a rusty bug! I'd weld up the "access panels" as well to keep the tunnel strong. I've replaced all my cables without cutting holes in the tunnel, so it's not necessary.

Kyle

THanks Kyle. I was going back and forth on whether I should weld those up or keep them like they are. I will weld them closed but first I plan on replacing all the cables. They dont cost much and it will be much easier to do in the cars present state.

Nice progress. Those holes were made to weld a broken clutch tube. As long as the repair was satisfactory weld up all but the front one. For the front one make a bolt on cover. That will aid with installing clutch cables.

Looks like I need to update the project page. We are close to finishing. Here are a couple of pics with the new wheels and tires. BF Goodrich AT TA-KO all the way around. 31x10.5 in the rear and 235/75 in front. The front wheels are offset so I get full turn without rubing.

Thanks Lucky. We got the motor in the other day and have a few more odds and ends to finish up. Hopefully we'll have her running down the road soon.

Here in the SoCal desert we've been having sub freezing temps for the last month+. So I agree on the comments re garage heating.

Those holes in the tunnel I would recommend closing up the rearward one, and for the forward one putting some thicker material around for a flange for a bolt-on cover plate. My buddy has one with that hole split all around the tunnel so the pan flexes there. It's a pretty stock Baja. Make neat rounded corners on the hole. That is the FRAME of the car.

Got the seats in this weekend. Also put some carbon fiber decal stuff on the dsh panels and glove box until I get some gauges. Did some exhast work too. The exhaust system wouldn't fit without hitting the rear cage so we had to make some cuts and reroute the exhaust. I'll post pics of that when it all done.
